(Feb. 27, 2007) – For the second-straight week, the University of South Florida baseball team has received votes in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association national poll. At 9-1, USF is the only BIG EAST Conference team listed in the poll. Two of the Bulls’ 2007 opponents – Georgia Tech and Stetson – are also ranked by the outlet. The 6-4 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, who USF will play May 5-7 in Tampa, are No. 22. In-state rival Stetson, who beat USF 9-4 on Feb. 20, but will meet the Bulls again both March 6 and April 10, also received votes.  Vanderbilt is atop the national poll at 10-0, followed by South Carolina (8-1) and North Carolina (7-0).  The Bulls are off to their best start since the 1986 season, and are 9-1 for only the fourth time in the history of USF baseball (1974, 1982, 1986 and 2007).  In 10 games, USF is maintaining a .347 batting average, while holding opponents to a .209 average. The Bulls have scored 85 runs and tallied 77 RBI, and the opposition has scored just 44 runs with 35 RBI.  USF pitchers own a 3.13 ERA, allowing 31 earned runs in 89.0 innings. As a staff, the Bulls have struck out 70 and walked 44. Watch the No. 30 Bulls in action Feb. 27 at Red McEwen as USF welcomes the University of Florida to Tampa. The first pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m., gates open at 5 p.m. The NCBWA continues its tradition of NCAA Division I polls for the ninth year with its 2007 weekly surveys. Weekly polls will continue from Feb. 5 to June 26, following the NCAA World Series in Omaha, Neb. Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball.
