(Feb. 26, 2007) – The BIG EAST Conference has selected University of South Florida senior right-handed pitcher Danny Otero as the Conference Pitcher of the Week, for the week ending Feb. 25. Otero, the reigning BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week (Feb. 19), pitched a complete game on Feb. 23 against Manhattan, a 3-0 USF shutout. Otero struck out eight of his 31 batters faced (four over a game minimum), walking two and allowing four hits in his third win (3-0) of the season. Otero’s feat was the first nine-inning complete game since the 2003 season. The Coral Gables, Fla., native, who owns a 0.41 ERA, has pitched 22.0 innings this season, striking out 14 and walking just four. Otero helped USF break into the national polls Feb. 26 as Collegiate Baseball Newspaper placed the Bulls 30th in the NCAA Division I poll. The No. 30 Bulls are off to their best start since the 1986 season, and are 9-1 for only the fourth time in the history of USF baseball (1974, 1982, 1986 and 2007).
