Gators Tuesday Night At Red McEwen Field TAMPA, Fla. (Feb. 26, 2007) – The No. 30 University of South Florida (9-1) baseball team looks to win its 10th game of the season Tuesday night against Florida (5-6) at Red McEwen Field. The Bulls and Gators take the field at 7 p.m., continuing USF’s stretch of 16 home games in 26 days. Gates open at 5 p.m. for the in-state matchup. All fans attending the game are encouraged to display USF pride, unity and tradition by wearing USF apparel to Red McEwen. The first 200 fans at the game receive a free USF T-shirt. Fans unable to attend the game can listen to the free live audio broadcast on USF’s Press Pass, which can be found at www.GoUSFBulls.com. Tuesday night the Bulls and Gators will face off for the 68th time in history. Florida holds a 43-24 advantage in the all-time series, but USF has won two of the last three meetings. USF, who was ranked No. 30 in the Collegiate Baseball newspaper national poll this week, is maintaining a .347 batting average, crushing 116 hits, while holding the opponent to 67 hits and a .209 batting average. In 10 games, the Bulls have scored 85 runs and tallied 77 RBI, and the opposition has scored just 44 runs with 35 RBI. USF pitchers hold a 3.13 ERA, allowing 31 earned runs in 89.0 innings. As a staff, the Bulls have struck out 70 and walked 44. Florida is batting .276 in 11 games this season, with 104 hits and 67 runs scored. The Gators have recorded 19 doubles and 18 homeruns, notching 62 RBI. The team from Gainesville is holding opponents to a .248 batting average with 97 hits, 55 runs and 47 RBI. The Gators’ 3.09 ERA comes from 34 earned runs in 99.0 innings. Florida pitchers have registered 76 strikeouts and 25 walks in 391 at bats. Individually, junior first baseman Brandin Daniel batted .500 in four games last week, crushing seven hits in 14 at bats for the 9-1 Bulls. Daniel was 4-for-4 in the final game of the week, cracking a double on his way to three RBI and one run scored against Manhattan. Daniel leads the Bulls with 17 total RBI in 10 games, has USF’s only home run of the year and is second on the team in doubles (3). Junior second baseman Dexter Butler leads the Bulls offensively with a .471 batting average. Butler is 16-for-34 at the plate with four doubles and eight RBI. Butler’s .588 slugging percentage leads the team as well. Sophomore third baseman Addison Maruszak is second on the team with a .464 average from 13 hits in 28 at bats. Maruszak has been hit by seven pitches, which is a team-high. Freshman right hander Matt Quevedo will get the start for the Bulls on Tuesday. Quevedo is 1-0 this season with a 0.00 ERA, in seven innings pitched. In his two appearances, Quevedo has collected five strikeouts and walked one batter. Senior infielder Matt LaPorta is atop the Gators’ batting list, hitting .424 in nine games. His nine RBI and four home runs lead the Florida squad and his 14 hits in 33 at bats are third on the team. Junior infielder Jon Townsend is batting .372 in 11 games, with a team-high 16 hits in 43 at bats. Townsend has seven RBI, three homeruns and three doubles. Freshman Kevin Chapman is expected to start Tuesday’s game on the mound. The left-handed pitcher is 1-1 this season holding a 6.43 ERA with five strikeouts and two walks in 7.0 innings pitched. Following the game with Florida, USF welcomes Central Michigan to Red McEwen Field March 2-4. The Bulls and Chippewas meet at 6 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday, then at Noon on Sunday.

I am not happy about that, but it should help us out a little.
