He has built a solid program at Nevada. It can't be easy recruiting kids to play in Reno, playing in the WAC. Where is he recruiting, with all the schools in CA? Not many kids in NV to go after with only 2 major cities, LV and Reno.Would his name recognition be big enough to help our program? Would he leave UN-R (Nevada) for USF? Could he recruit in this part of the country? If he can build a program at UNR, I think he could do it at USF.

I for one do not compain about mac yelling at his players. I complain when they show mac on the bench with his hands on his head looking lost like his players do on the court due to his inability to coach. i just dont think you can be a disciplinarian when no one respects you and if recruits hear this they definitely will not come here. Its works for bobby knight, not bobby mccullum. Mark Fox is a great coach but he said no to nebraska so im sure he wouldnt come to this cluster...you know what.

How about laying off and letting the discussion flow? It's not like he's hijacking another thread, which is obviously something that's not cool...he started a new thread with a legitimate topic.Pros: strong recruiter, plenty of post-season (NCAA/NIT) exposure as a coach.Cons: Big-12 type of guy, never gone outside of the Midwest. If he is looking, (which he probably isn't, since he recently declined to pursue the Nebraska job) USF would have to out-bid a lot of midwest schools who would want to snap him up.http://www.nevadawolfpack.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=10000&ATCLID=530559

If we can just get a small piece of the recruiting action in the midwest and sell those kids on playing in Tampa, it would go a long way to putting us back on the basketball map.

Speculate away... but we may have this coach for 3, 4 years ( or even more), if we are lucky. That will require much more progress than we have seen thus far, but all these midseason coaching search threads are way past absurd. I guess I should be happy there is baskeball talk at all at this school as maybe one day it will turn into actual support. :

If we do, then there are larger problems that should be addressed with the athletic department. Now is the best time to start the discussions of who would do a good job in building this program back to where it should be. We should be able to tempt a coach away from reno, with the lure of coaching a team from FL that is in the Big East. I am sure most coaches dream about coaching in a big time conference like the Big East. Playing san jose state and fresno state or uconn, notre dame, villanova and syracuse? Hmm tough one. I don't want to hire a no name coach that doesnt have a proven track record of winning, like crm at western mich (save the talk of his final year's record) or an assistant. We need a coach like nevada's who has shown he can take a team into the top 25 and consistently win. What other coaches come to mind?
