Guest wildrover Posted December 28, 2006 Posted December 28, 2006 This statement is beginning to make less and less sense to me. I would understand it if there was some evidence to suggest that when we get into BE play we might actually do well. Like if we were a AA football team whose entire OOC was BCS teams. Surely there would be some fans calling for the coach's head if a football team started out say 0-4. However, objective fans might say, we're AA and we lost to bigger stronger faster schools, that was expected, I'll reserve judgment for when we start playing in our own conference. In that scenario, that statement makes sense. However...Our future schedule is the BE, in other words, we are going to be playing schools in our conference that our bigger faster and better than the schools we've already been losing too. What, if anything, makes any of you believe that things will actually get better when we start playing conference ball? Just wondering?

Last year was similar in OOC, we almost beat Nova w/ 7 players(1 or 2 walkons), beat Georgetown once(and almost twice), etc...with a team that was outmanned. What if we win some of those games this year w/ a full roster/Gransbeery and Verdejo? Then the other reason, again, USF DOES NOT MAKE COACHING CHANGES MID-SEASON. It's been said a thousand times, it'll be evaluated at the end of the season, so since we arent going to make a change, I'll do what Woolard is going to do and wait until the season is over. I have said on the other thread I think for CRM to keep his job we need to make the Big East tournament(anything short of that, I'll join the dark side). If that doesnt happen, he'll probably be fired and can say he had a fair shot. And IIRC, Woolard's statement during the whole Huggins affair, said we needed to see improvement this year. Thats where the reserving judgement comes from.
Guest wildrover Posted December 28, 2006 Posted December 28, 2006 I'm not talking about a coaching change. Remember this is a message board not official minutes to a DW meeting. You, as a fan are not under the same obligations as DW and your opinion about whether or not CRM needs to go or stay does not carry the consequences that DW's does. I think its obvious that there won't be a coaching change mid-season, what I'm wondering about is why people are unwilling to develop an opinion about it until the season has played itself out. You don't see the same sort of reaction from people when someone makes a ridiculous prediction about us going undefeated and winning the big east etc...etc..., you don't see a bunch of people jumping all over those types saying "I'll wait till the end of the season" the team and coaches are evaluated after every game during football season, good and bad but there are those on here who refuse to do that during bball season and even suggest we should all wait till the season over before we have an opinion. I'm just wondering why?

I guess you can say I'm not sure. I'll see how he does in conference play w/ a full team finally. If we're successful, he'll stay, and we'll move on w/ a young talented team. If conference play is the same as last year, fire him and move on. . I've been a supporter of CRM. I see this season as the launching point for the next 3-4 years in bball, either the team comes together and we have a strong, talented team that brings back most of its players next year or we dont make the tournament and we start over with a new head coach. I'm not going to scream about it either way right now, (this coming from someone w/ usually strong opinions).

Dude, I'm not saying he should stay. I'm saying I'll wait and see. What happens if Gransberry and Verdejo, Howard come together and we go .500 in the Big East? (Not saying it'll happen, but we have the full team for the first time basically.)  Hell, I've saud at least 5 times on here in 24 hours that if we dont make the Big East tourney, I'll think its time for a change.

You hate to keep harping on Howard coming in but the reality is it will be a big deal if he's as advertised. Point guard play is so important, especially in the BE. We're not winning another game, other than BCC, hopefully, with the pg options we had last night. Aris was also missed as a backup to Gransberry. Also, just as an aside, two of the teams we just lost to, according to Sagarin right now, would be top 5 in the BE. I realize that will obviously change as the season progresses but the point is they aren't that drastically different from the teams we'll be playing in conference.

I'm just wondering why?Football is 12 games. Basketball is 30. Football is played once a week, basketball is multiple. It gets REALLY redundant, no matter what "side" youre on, to harp on it after every-single-game.....miamisportsfan83.....
