USF finishing in next month’s final Associated Press Top 25 poll? It’s unlikely, but still possible after USF defeated East Carolina Saturday. USF entered the bowl games 32nd in the AP poll, so the Bulls need to jump seven teams to move into the Top 25.

No. 19 BYU and No. 25 TCU have already won, so the Cougars and Horned Frogs won’t drop out of the Top 25. It’s a longshot, but the Bulls could move up in to the Top 25, but they’ll need a lot of help. Here’s what needs to happen (and even this may not be enough), but at least you’ll know who to root for in the bowl games. The team USF needs to lose is listed first.

No. 22 Nebraska vs. No. 10 Auburn (Cotton),

No. 23 Boston College vs. No. 33 Navy (Meineke Car Care Bowl),

No. 24 Oregon State vs. unranked Missouri (Sun),

No. 26 Georgia vs. No. 14 Virginia Tech (Chick-fil-A),

No. 27 Georgia Tech vs. No. 13 West Virginia (Gator),

No. 28 Hawaii vs. unranked Arizona State (Hawaii),

No. 30 Penn State vs. No. 17 Tennessee (Outback) and

No. 31 Maryland vs. unranked Purdue (Champs Sports).

OK, so even if those eight teams all lose, the Bulls will still likely need the following to happen: The winner of No. 20 Cal vs. No. 21 Texas A&M in the Holiday Bowl needs to win big to knock the loser out of the poll. In the Liberty Bowl between No. 29 Houston vs. No. 34 South Carolina, USF probably needs South Carolina to win a nail-biter. If USC wins big, the Gamecocks would probably jump USF.

Yeah, Brett did this a few days ago ... and with the press their QB is getting, they very well will be Top 25.

Top 25 aint gonna happen.  Best we can hope for is to move up among the also receiving votes.  Then get votes in preseason polls, and move into top 25 after a few Ws next year.

It will be tough sledding to get into the Top 25 this year, but I don't think all those teams need to lose in order for it to happen.  USF is riding a wave of good pub right now.  

As for next year, I don't think it is unreasonable that we could start the season in the Top 25.  Everyone knows we have a very young team that is losing very little.  Some other teams (Rutgers) will take be graduation hits, so we could sneak past them.

We are on the radar.  We need to win at least 9 regular season games next year to finish in the Top 25.  Yes!

I don't know about end of year top 25 but if the mighty(according to them) SEC gets beaten in their bowl games next year a pre-season top 25 might be possible.    Next year might be the first time in I don't know how long that the pre-season top 25 won't have FSU or Miami in it.
