ARE YOU LISTENING ROD "???PLAYCALLING" SMITH up by 17 and running your playmaking QB? > god's christmas gift to USF...the season is over, also we won our first bowl game. end of rant! :-X a small negative in an otherwise great day!

Gotta run with what works to keep defenses honest or you look like ECU today with us just blitzing the house all day. I hate seeing Grothe run as much as he does as much the next guy but we have to get consistant production from other people on the ground before we cut back on it. Also as long as we are running the spread he will get carries because that is a major part of the type of spread offense we run.

I am sorry, but Grothe is just too valuable to sacrifice because we can't come up with a consistent run threat. He is a great quarterback, but face it, he can't take the punishment and we need his arm and pocket slipperiness more than we need him to be our leading rusher. Do we need to win so badly that we will sacrifice this kid's career in order to do it?Without his legs, you can forget him as a quarterback and in my opinion, this season has shown that we will lose him if we keep running him. He may throw like Namath, but let's not make him end up like Namath -- too crippled to play.Recruit a top running back or hope Benjamin turns into another Hall, but give this kid a break.

Matt can't do that. Problem was, the passing game ground to a halt in the 2nd half with Pat in.It's too late now, but I wonder if Pat could have made a good RB.

Guest BasketBull. Posted December 24, 2006 Posted December 24, 2006 About injuries, they are just part of the game.We fans don't usually see it, but the QB gets pounded on almost every time he throws the ball. So while it's horrible to see our QB get hurt running the ball, I think it's no better than throwing. And with the spread, the QB has to be able to run. Matt didn't get all of those yards sitting in the pocket. I didn't like the call early on in the season, but now I'm not against it.The timing of the call, however, was not good.

It is one of our most valuable plays, so we'll always have it. And give Rod Smith credit with some great play calling yesterday. Even when PJ came into the game, we ran some first down throws to loosen things up. I thought Rod called some great games in the second half of the season
