unceremonious death.

i hope it is purged from the play book.

the only time grothe should be running is when a play breaks down  or when buying time to throw down field.

ARE YOU LISTENING ROD "???PLAYCALLING" SMITH

up by 17 and running your playmaking QB? >:(

god's christmas gift to USF...the season is over, also we won our first bowl game.

end of rant! :-X

a small negative in an otherwise great day! :)

Until the offense proves that we can week in and week out get good production from a RB or RB's the QB run will be relied uppon heavily.  Gotta run with what works to keep defenses honest or you look like ECU today with us just blitzing the house all day.  I hate seeing Grothe run as much as he does as much the next guy but we have to get consistant production from other people on the ground before we cut back on it.  Also as long as we are running the spread he will get carries because that is a major part of the type of spread offense we run.

If you say that it is necessary for the QB in a spread to run, then I say we have the wrong quarterback for it.  I am sorry, but Grothe is just too valuable to sacrifice because we can't come up with a consistent run threat.  He is a great quarterback, but face it, he can't take the punishment and we need his arm and pocket slipperiness more than we need him to be our leading rusher.  Do we need to win so badly that we will sacrifice this kid's career in order to do it?

Without his legs, you can forget him as a quarterback and in my opinion, this season has shown that we will lose him if we keep running him.  He may throw like Namath, but let's not make him end up like Namath -- too crippled to play.

Recruit a top running back or hope Benjamin turns into another Hall, but give this kid a break.

I love seeing Pat run in the spread because he runs over and through people.  Matt can't do that.  Problem was, the passing game ground to a halt in the 2nd half with Pat in.

It's too late now, but I wonder if Pat could have made a good RB.

I fully expect a RB to surface and don't think Williams is it.

Still suprised about Ponton this season.

Was hoping that Dorsey would have stepped up also.

Now lets hope that Samuels has gotten ready during his RS and that Plancher is healing, coaches have great confidence in him.

And of course we are recruiting RB's to start.

We've been lucky that Grothe has not been seriously injured, but that is with any play ... but into the middle does increase chances for a 6' 200 lbs QB.

grothe has a hair line fracture to the shin according to cjl...

if this was week 7 he would be done for 3-4 weeks our season poof up in the run.

true we had issues this year...lets see if they get adressed by fall of 2007

because auburns d could end our season if grothe is running into the teeth of it by design...just my two cents

But lets also realize the pain OUR D can inflict  ;)

I am sure a RB is what Grothe asked Santa for  8-)

I don't mind the call, but I do have to agree with bulls96go that we really didn't need to be doing that up 17 points.

About injuries, they are just part of the game.

We fans don't usually see it, but the QB gets pounded on almost every time he throws the ball. So while it's horrible to see our QB get hurt running the ball, I think it's no better than throwing.

And with the spread, the QB has to be able to run. Matt didn't get all of those yards sitting in the pocket. I didn't like the call early on in the season, but now I'm not against it.

The timing of the call, however, was not good.

The QB keeper is part of the scheme whenever you run the spread.  It is one of our most valuable plays, so we'll always have it.  And give Rod Smith credit with some great play calling yesterday.  Even when PJ came into the game, we ran some first down throws to loosen things up.  I thought Rod called some great games in the second half of the season
