Freshmen Get Ready For Bowl Game

Published: Dec 7, 2006

TAMPA - University of South Florida freshmen George Selvie and Chris Robinson will look to put an exclamation point on their already superb inaugural seasons when the Bulls play East Carolina in the Papajohns.com Bowl on Dec. 23.

"They've both been a pleasant surprise," defensive coordinator Wally Burnham said.

Selvie, a 6-foot-4, 255-pound defensive end, is fourth on the team in tackles (76) and tied with LB Stephen Nicholas for the team lead in tackles for loss with 12. Selvie ranks second with 5.5 sacks and three forced fumbles.

"George has done a great job on the run and pass," Burnham said. "He's a hard worker who has become a pretty good football player in the last three months. We've gotten a lot more out of him than we ever thought at this early stage."

Robinson, a 6-3, 230-pound linebacker/defensive end, leads USF with six sacks despite not starting any game. He also tied LB Ben Moffitt's 2005 single-season record of four forced fumbles.

"Chris just has a lot of ability. We put him out there and he makes plays," Burnham said. "He's going to be a double guy. He's going to play linebacker, then when we go to a nickel package he's going to be a defensive end. He's going to be one of those special guys. There's a lot of possibilities there."

I wish Selvie and Robinson were the weights listed. Not even close, but when they do get that heavy, WATCH OUT BIG EAST. They have had awesome years for redshirt freshmen. AWESOME.

Agreed.

Both of those guys are S-K-I-N-N-Y.

I cannot believe our coaches were even considering a move to the OL for Selvie.  He's a rail......but a rail that plays well at DE.

Get these dudes in the weight room and pack about 15 lbs. of muscle apiece on 'em.

That being said, they both played great for freshmen.
