(Thats the big question)

Guest Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 Not quite...Bottom Line: 2 BE teams go to the BCS we go to Houston if only 1 goes we go to B'Ham.Not necessarily. The Texas Bowl could select between USF and Cincinnati -- assuming that the Gator Bowl selects West Virginia. If Louisville loses today to Pitt book your tickets to B'ham (we will only get 1 BCS team).No. Actually, quite the opposite. If Pitt wins, USF could be left out of a Big East Bowl... and you could have to book your tickets to Detroit. Here's why. Currently, there are five teams with winning records (7-5 or better) in the Big East. There are also five bowl slots available. NCAA rules say that a bowl must take a conference team that is 7-5 or better before a 6-6 team. Now, if Pitt loses - they are 6-6 and USF will be going to either Birmingham, Houston, or Toronto for sure. If Pitt wins, then there will be six teams at 7-5 or better, since the only bowl where records count is the BCS slot - all other bowls could select the other teams, and leave USF without a Big East bowl. So, root for Louisville.IF WVU beats Rutgers next week we then only have 1 BCS team (We go to Birmingham). Probably. I don't see how a 2-loss Big East team (WVU or RU) could make a claim over a 2-loss LSU or a 2-loss Florida (if Arkansas wins next week). LSU is the best 2-loss team right now.If Rutgers beats WVU, and wins the Big East will Louisville get in as the #2 Big East BCS team. (Thats the big question)Maybe. Louisville was #9 in the BCS entering the weekend. Arkansas and WVU ahead of them already lost. LSU could jump over them. And U of L could jump over the USC/ND loser. U of L will be a 1-loss team ranked in the top 6 or 7 of the BCS. The only question is whether LSU or Florida (if they lose to Arknasas) is a better attraction than the Cardinals.There. Clear as mud.Don't book any tickets you can't change or cancel. Yet.

Texas will get either WVU, Louisville, or Rutgers. We are pretty much assured of Birmingham at this point.

Rutgers and Louisville win out, then U of L would be #5 or 6 and not the Big East Champion. If Florida wins... would a 2-loss LSU be preferable to a 1-loss U of L ?If Arkansas wins... would a 2-loss Florida be preferable to a 1-loss U of L ?It all depends on who the Rose Bowl would like to see...

I will keep fingers crossed all next week, but the way things are looking at this moment the 4 at large teams are going to be:MichiganBoise StateLSUNotre DameLSU will certainly travel and I think that is what gets them in, deserving, or not.

You're saying that if Pitt wins, they could skip an USF for TWO teams with worse records.

Guest Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 How come wisconsin at 1 loss get no consideration for bcs? I would think they too could sneak in?1. BCS rules say one conference can only get 2 BCS bids. Ohio State & Michigan would be the Big Ten representatives.2. Wisconsin already accepted a bid to the Capital One Bowl.No. Actually, quite the opposite. I don't think it's gonna be a big problem.
