It was once the crown jewel of college football, state of the art beautiful stadium that everyone tried to copy, even at the NFL level.Shame they let it go to $hit

Say what you will about Legion Field, but at least the sightlines are still good.

It looks like about an 80-90 year old stadium. What an absolute dump.

A lil history for those not familiar with Legion Field Back then most these Southern schools played 3-4 games away from campus because the roads weren't feasible to get 50,000 fans to their respective boondock cities, so they went to the population. Schools like Mississippi & Mississippi State played at Jackson, MS (in another stadium that was once nice and now is a complete dump). Arkansas played in Little Rock. Alabama & (occasionally) Auburn played in Birmingham (Auburn also played in Columbus, GA)In the 80s schools started noticing they made more money playing games at their campuses and fans would still show. This led to a lot of games moving back to campus. Legion Field was held onto by Alabama, because of the tradition. However, they refused to upgrade the very old and nasty stadium. In 2003 they decided to retire from playing games at Legion Field for good, favoring the upgraded 90,000 seat stadium they had finishing up. The only school that really still plays these dual "home stadium" games is Arkansas, and even those games are few and far between since they redid their stadium in Fayetteville. Currently they are down to playing 2 games there a year, and one of them was a "road game" as it was considered a UL-Monroe home game. The other is LSU this Friday.
