Leavitt's Emphasis On The Offense

TAMPA - If there’s one college football team that doesn’t have much to give thanks for this week it’s the South Florida football program. What’s the reward for the Bulls after a 31-8 pounding from Louisville: Steve Slaton, Pat White and the Mountaineers juggernaut offense.

For the second consecutive week, head coach Jim Leavitt emphasized that the offense must answer West Virginia and put points on the board. The defense ran out of gas in the second half against Louisville and can’t afford to be on the field as long as it was Saturday night.

“We are probably facing the best quarterback and running back in the country this week,†Leavitt said. “We have our hands full and we know that if we play the way we did last week that we don’t have a shot.â€Â

REMEMBERING WATERS: Leavitt was saddened by the news of the death of former USF assistant Andre Waters.

“Ashton Samuels (redshirt) and Jamal Jenkins (special teams player) are related to him,†Leavitt said. “Not planning on Jamal to make the trip to West Virginia. I told him to go walk and think. Normally sons want to be with their moms to hug them and tell them they love them. Jamal came to this program at Andre's request because he wanted him here at our program.â€Â

MOFFIT, ST. LOUIS SIT OUT PRACTICE: Senior LB Patrick St. Louis and junior LB Ben Moffit sat out of Monday’s practice. Moffit hurt his knee in the second quarter and tried to come back, but wasn’t very effective. St. Louis injured his hamstring after taking over Moffit’s spot. Both players will sit out most of the week, but Leavitt expects both players to be ready on Saturday.
