Satellite dish owners can rejoice...a good sign here nonetheless.

UConn-USF To Be On TV

September 13, 2006

Shawn Courchesne

According to the schedule on its website, SportsNet NY will broadcast UConn's football game at South Florida on Oct. 7 with a 3:30 p.m. start.

UConn has not announced any details concerning broadcast of the game or a scheduled start time. UConn officials were unavailable for comment. South Florida's website lists the game as a 7 p.m. start.

Now at least five of UConn's 11 remaining games will be televised. Its game at Indiana on Sept. 23 will be carried by WCTX-TV, Ch. 59, and SportsNet NY on an ESPN Regional broadcast.

ESPN will carry UConn's Oct. 20 game at home against West Virginia and its following game at Rutgers on Oct. 29.

The Huskies' season finale at Louisville on Dec. 2 will be carried by either ESPN or ESPN2. UConn's season opener on Aug. 31 against Rhode Island was broadcast by the YES Network.

If it is a 3:30 pm start time then it sounds like an ABC regional game. I do not see why we would move the game to 3:30 pm if it isn't going to be broadcast regionally/nationally.

I would wait until there is official word from USF before getting too concerned about the game time.  The contradictions in the article are pretty clear.

SportsNet NY is a new cable station up there. If they are broadcasting it I can't see this being an ABC Regional, but rather a local production.

From their website:

Q: I live outside of SportsNet New York's regional viewing area, how can I receive the network?

A: SportsNet New York is available outside its regional broadcast territory through DIRECTV on channel 625 and through DISH Network on channel 438. DIRECTV customers who live outside SNY's region must subscribe to the DIRECTV SPORTS Pack, which is available a la carte throughout the United States to all DIRECTV customers. DISH Network customers, who subscribe to America's Top 60+, DishHD Silver or any higher package, now have access to SNY on channel 438.
