USF: Trio to remain out

TAMPA - Three key suspended players - running back Ricky Ponton, receiver Jackie Chambers and defensive end Josh Julmiste, won't be back any time soon.

The three remain on "indefinite suspension" for an unspecified violation, sports information director John Gerdes said Monday.

YEAR OFF: Sophomore receiver Jessie Hester, who caught three passes in nine games last season but hasn't dressed this season, will redshirt to recover from lingering shoulder and knee injuries.

"The receiving corps is pretty strong," his father, Jessie, said. "So he won't be missed as much and will be back healthy next year."

TIME AND TV: The Sept. 23 game at Kansas will air on Fox Sports Net and begin at 7.

Agreed -- they deserve every bit of that six game suspension.  I too am glad we stuck to our guns.

That being said, I'm really ticked at those three doofs!

That is dumb to change the drug policy and then keep these guys out. If you weren't going to let them play, then don't come out and change the policy.

Well they did it before they changed the policy which doesn't go into effect next season. I wonder if this was the Athletic Department's decision, Leavitt's or a combo?

I'm glad we stuck to our guns, I have always said you don't need to kick them off the team, just suspend them for awhile. I only hope the team can pick up where they left off.

the drug policy is going to be change next year not this year and for Ponton this is not his first time...................... but the first time he didn't inhale

While I don't believe smoking the buddha is any worse than having a beer, it is according to the law and that's what counts.  Unfortunately, these guys new the rules,had already used their one get out of jail free card, and smoked again.  Hopefully they learn a lesson from this one.
