Can we PLEASE run the football?

Not the way we ran it with Clenton Crossley, but the way we ran it with Andre Hall. We didnt seem to have any problem going under center and putting a TE in there with Hall in there, did we?

The playcalling overall just makes no sense. There are certain down and distances when the play called made ZERO sense, and had everyone scratching their heads.

If we cant run the football, teams are gonna pin their ears back, drop 7 in coverage, and make our ROOKIE QB look a lot worse than he really is.

Onto coaching, for the 1st time, I'm gonna say it: this is a terribly coached football team. Clock management, mental errors, and special teams penalties.......all atrocious, and all problems lay on the shoulders of Jim Leavitt.

All these things can be corrected, and I'm not losing faith in Leavitt by any means, but the 1st 2 games have been horribly coached.

You are right...CJL has done an awesome job getting the team this far in such a short timeframe. Maybe we have been spoiled by our quick success and should anticipate a few years of sliding back in order to take that next step.

Having said that, I don't think I have ever seen this coaching staff so out of touch with the game. I think the losses of some our assistant coaches is beginning to show.

I agree, Shoop... nice to meet you tonight, by the way.

How bad do you have to be to get an ILLEGAL FORMATION penalty on the "VICTORY FORMATION" ??????????????????????????????

Our coaching staff does not seem to instill any discipline in the players.  This has been a problem for such a long time that it's obvious Leavitt could almost care less.  Sure, he gets upset - but is he upset at the foul or that the player got caught??

Yes, tonight there were a lot of non-calls ... but most of the calls seem to have been legit.

As for the running game... let's see. Take your #1 RB out for the year with an ACL injury.  Take your #2 RB out of the game because of drug suspensions.  Look at what you have left, a collection of former walk-ons, actual walk-ons, and true freshmen.  Then, on top of that, add the fact that your OL is still in flux, and without a lot of playing experience.  Finally, one last thing, add in a mobile quarterback that still seems a bit too eager to pull it down and run... that is a formula for failure in the running game.

Yes, MG has an arm and he needs to throw it down field a bit more.  The TD pass to Johnson was a play action, and I can't recall another play action all game (there may have been, just can't recall).

This team has a lot to work on.  Lucky for us, UCF seems to have their own problems on defense... and Kansas doesn't look all that strong either.

Rutgers, however, could be a very very very tough game.

Ya...Walk ons usually are the best RBs.

Threads like this piss me off because most have NO clue what they are talking about.

Doesn't there need to be the threat of a running game for the play action to work? I'm amazed it was called at all ...

Triple,

Don't you know. The walkons played great against McNeese last week. They should have played this well against FIU. After all, some on here claimed McNeese was metter than FIU and UCF.

Simply put we don't have the personnel to play in a great offense right now. We need to get the small things down and the running game just isn't one, because we

a) don't have the line

B) don't have the talent.

We're going to struggle running until #5 comes back. The OL needs to gel a bit more as well. They had 1 or 2 drives where we were able to open holes. Other than that FIU stopped the run pretty weel.
