Marc Dile from Edison is #2 in County in Shot put.

Speaking of shot put, USF just signed the #1 woman in the state in that event as well as the discus.

USF Track & Field Announces Spring Signees

Tampa, FL (April 26, 2004) – USF head track and field coach Greg Thiel has announced that eight student-athletes – six women and two men – have signed National Letters of Intent to attend the school beginning in the fall of 2004.

On the women’s side Misti Barber (Miami, FL/Carol City HS) will continue the tradition of stellar throwers for the Bulls in the field events. Barber will compete in the shot put and discus, two events that she is currently ranked No. 1 in the state in.

Shannon Davis (Jacksonville, FL/Wolfson HS) comes to USF ranked No. 2 in the state in the 300-meter hurdles and will add depth at an already impressive sprinting corps.

Karla Savery (Tallahessee, FL/Chiles HS), the 2003 state runner-up in the pole vault, will join current Bulls’ freshman Megan Malone (Riverview, FL/Riverview) to make up one of the better young vaulting tandems in the Southeast.

Tiffany Sloan (Houston, TX/Northshore HS), like Davis, will help bolster the sprinters. She will compete in the 200-meter run where she holds a personal record of 23.80.

Maressa Pinzini (Cheltenham, PA/ Cheltenham HS) and Rosalyn Woodberry (Niceville, FL/Niceville HS) round out USF’s female signees. They will compete in the 800-meter run and the long and triple jump respectively.

The men signed local products Brian Zipler (Tampa, FL/Sickles) and Clinton Dunlop (Lakeland, FL/Lakeland Christian) who will both compete in the high jump.

-End-

Here is a copy of the top 5 sprinters in Dade County, notice their times. Also notice the time of the top High school sprinter in Florida this year.

• 100 meters: 1. Terry Jones, Carol City, 10.69; 2. Bobby Washington, Killian, 10.74; 3. McKasey Hughes, 10.78; 4. Jonathan Pyfrom, Carol City, 10.80; 5. Rony Pimentel, Ransom Everglades, 10.81. State's best: Walter Dix, Coral Springs, 10.28.

ok... well being a half second being Xman is not really that bad, HE IS THE NUMBER 1 SPRINTER IN THE NATION!!!  He has been running in BASKETBALL SHOES, due to a toe injury, and still winning all his events.

ok, he has been hurt almost all year and has not been doing spectacular this year..... BUT

B-100 10.24 Charles, Hugh, 2004, Keller TX 4/17/2004, District 5A Reg 1 TX, # 1

B-100 10.28 p +0.8 Dix, Walter, 2004, Coral Springs FL 3/27/2004, Fla Relays 3A-4A FL, # 1

B-100 10.29 Carter, Xavier, 2004, Palm Bay Melb FL 4/17/2004, Florida Elite Inv FL, # 1

he runs to his competition, in the meet he ran 10.29 second place was in the 10.5 range and that was OJ Murdock, prob the fastest sprinter in the tampa area if not the west coast...   and if you really want to get technical the 10.28 by Dix was wind aided so XC's time is technically quicker than Dix's...

I noticed in the Spring game that C J Lewis had some good separation.

He's probably the fastest guy on the team.

C.J. Lewis - #1

Sophomore

Position: WR

5-11, 175

Titusville, Fla./Astronaut HS

Speedy wideout, he has run a 4.43…Will look to build on his rookie season when he played behind a deep and experienced corps of receivers…Opportunities should prove greater in 2003 with loss of Ryan Hearn, DeAndrew Rubin and Hugh Smith.

SOUTH FLORIDA – 2002: Saw spot duty in four games.

ASTRONAUT HIGH SCHOOL - Second team all-state as a wide receiver and a three-time all-Space Coast selection at defensive back and receiver…Also a three-time all-district choice at both positions…Played three seasons in football and a four-year letterman in track…State runner-up in 100 meters as a junior…Also reached finals in 200 meters…District champion in 100 meters as a freshman…Conference champion in 400 meters and ran anchor on a state champion 4x100 meter relay…Coached by Randy Hallock.

PERSONAL - Born May 31, 1982 in Titusville…Son of Wanda Ward.
