(August 25, 2006) – The University of South Florida women’s soccer team blanked High Point University (N.C.) 4-0 in the Bulls’ season opener held at the USF Soccer Stadium.Sophomore Lindsay Brauer opened the scoring rampage in the 21st minute of the game, one-touching a cross from freshman Jaleesa Scott for USF’s first goal of the season. Scott added a goal 20 minutes later punching a chip shot over the goalkeeper into the back of the net. In the 57th minute Brauer placed a corner kick perfectly for junior Autumn Browning to smash into the goal. To end the scoring charge, Brauer scored an unassisted goal in the 81st minute of the non-conference game. In the first round of the Dafeldecker Classic, USF had 16 shots, seven of which were on goal. Senior Casey Garrett played all 90 minutes in goal, making six saves in the season debut, her sixth shutout of her USF career. High Point University was allowed just two shots in the first half and nine in the second period of play. Goalkeeper Marissa Abbott allowed four goals and made three saves. USF (1-0-0) will play University of South Alabama (0-1-0) Sunday, Aug. 27 at 1 p.m. at the USF Soccer Stadium. South Alabama lost 1-0 to Alabama A&M University in the first round of the Dafeldecker Classic. High Point will play Alabama A&M at 11 a.m. the same day.
