Bulls Open 2006 Regular Season at In-State Rival FIU

The University of South Florida men’s soccer team kicks off the 2006 season in Miami, Fla., versus the FIU Golden Panthers on Friday, Aug. 25.

The Bulls enter the 2006 season garnering a lot of national attention. USF is ranked as high as No. 9 in the nation (by Soccer America) and boasts one of the nation’s top midfielders in junior Rodrigo Hidalgo (a M.A.C. Hermann Trophy candidate).

USF returns 10 starters from a team which claimed the 2005 BIG EAST Red Division title, including Preseason All-BIG EAST selections Hidalgo, Jordan Seabrook and Yohance Marshall. Following a successful preseason, in which the Bulls went 3-0-0, including a 2-0 victory at No. 25 Saint Louis, USF will begin its march towards the BIG EAST title and its 12th appearance in the NCAA Tournament, starting with in-state rival FIU.

The Golden Panthers finished the 2005 season with an 8-7-2 (4-3-2 C-USA) record last season. Eleven letterwinners return to the squad this season, including five starters.

USF is looking to avenge its only loss at home during the 2005 season, a 1-0 defeat at the hands of FIU on Sept. 2, 2005.
