USF Women's Soccer to Host Dafeldecker Classic this Weekend

Tampa, Fla. (August 23, 2006) - The University of South Florida women's

soccer team will host the four-team Dafeldecker Classic on Friday, Aug.

25 and Sunday, Aug. 27 at the USF Soccer Stadium.

To open the event, Alabama A&M University and the University of South

Alabama will take to the field at 5 p.m. Friday. USF will then host High

Point University at 7 p.m. the same night. The Classic will resume

Sunday at 11 a.m. when High Point matches up with Alabama A&M. USF will

close out the weekend tournament on Sunday against South Alabama.

Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.

About the Teams:

The University of South Florida Bulls split their 2006 exhibition games,

beating Saint Leo 4-0 at home before dropping a game 2-0 to UCF the

following week. USF ended the 2005 campaign with a 7-7-3 overall record

and had a 2-6-3 BIG EAST showing.

Hailing from Mobile, the South Alabama Jaguars opened the 2006 preseason

with a 1-0 exhibition win over defending NAIA National Champion Martin

Methodist. USA was 12-5-1 overall last season and 6-2 in the Sun Belt

Coming off a 15-2-2 2005 season, with an unbeaten 8-0-1 SWAC record, the

Alabama A&M Bulldogs return the nation's second most potent offense.

Their .842 winning percentage placed the Bulldogs sixth in the country

one year ago.

The High Point University Panthers, 10-7-1 in 2005, won both exhibition

games this preseason, including a 3-0 victory over Catawba and a 5-0

rout of Lenoir-Rhyne. This team from North Carolina was 5-3-0 in the Big

South Conference last season.

The Dafeldecker Classic is named in honor of Mark Dafeldecker, a Tampa

Bay community teacher and soccer coach, and the father of current USF

soccer player Erin Dafeldecker.

Will we actually win a game in this tourney? The teams look pretty formible despite being lesser known schools. We'll know right away how decent our team is this season.

Very classy naming this after Mark Dafeldecker.

If you recall, he passed last year while on a road trip watching the Women's Soccer team play.
