(August 23, 2006) - The University of South Florida women's soccer team will host the four-team Dafeldecker Classic on Friday, Aug. 25 and Sunday, Aug. 27 at the USF Soccer Stadium.To open the event, Alabama A&M University and the University of South Alabama will take to the field at 5 p.m. Friday. USF will then host High Point University at 7 p.m. the same night. The Classic will resume Sunday at 11 a.m. when High Point matches up with Alabama A&M. USF will close out the weekend tournament on Sunday against South Alabama. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.About the Teams:The University of South Florida Bulls split their 2006 exhibition games, beating Saint Leo 4-0 at home before dropping a game 2-0 to UCF the following week. USF ended the 2005 campaign with a 7-7-3 overall record and had a 2-6-3 BIG EAST showing. Hailing from Mobile, the South Alabama Jaguars opened the 2006 preseason with a 1-0 exhibition win over defending NAIA National Champion Martin Methodist. USA was 12-5-1 overall last season and 6-2 in the Sun Belt Conference.Coming off a 15-2-2 2005 season, with an unbeaten 8-0-1 SWAC record, the Alabama A&M Bulldogs return the nation's second most potent offense. Their .842 winning percentage placed the Bulldogs sixth in the country one year ago.The High Point University Panthers, 10-7-1 in 2005, won both exhibition games this preseason, including a 3-0 victory over Catawba and a 5-0 rout of Lenoir-Rhyne. This team from North Carolina was 5-3-0 in the Big South Conference last season.The Dafeldecker Classic is named in honor of Mark Dafeldecker, a Tampa Bay community teacher and soccer coach, and the father of current USF soccer player Erin Dafeldecker.
