Student-Athlete Dinner/Auction

In all of our hopes for our Bulls to be drafted this weekend, I did want to mention that the auction and dinner on Saturday night was just outstanding.  HUGE props to my former employers for making the floor of the Dome look better than any hotel ballroom in the city.  The set they designed on the stage was awesome, the Spanish theme was great with the entertainment, and the program was excellent (i.e. not monotonous and too long).  They also managed to combine two of my favorite things ever... Columbia Restaurant catering and an open bar.  

Huey and Bonnye Glover from the volleyball team presented Lee Roy with a beautiful statue for all he has done for USF.  All the senior student-athletes were also on stage at the time, it really was a nice moment.  

On the auction side, there were some great items to be had, as well as a few bargains.  Some items that I remember include some beautifully framed USF football pictures, high end cigars and wines, autographs from everyone from Jesse Owens to Freddy Adu, trips and cruises to everywhere.. and the live auction had everything from road trips and luxury suites for USF football to Super Bowl and Final Four packages.  Some bargains included dinner for 10 at Hooters went for only $25, and I saw a $1000 gift certificate for something go for only $400.  Only thing I won was a Coach on the Bench for men's basketball... got outbid on a Manchester United jersey, and some basketball team gear.  

I know the $100 price tag might have scared some people off, but it was well worth it.  It's an excellent way to meet your fellow Bulls fan as well as coaches and staff, and also to say congratulations to the student-athletes you've gotten to watch for four years.  If you bleed green and gold, this should be an annual event for you.

Mike I think there were 50-60 tables at 10-12 people each.  The turnout was excellent.  Maybe the Bull Backers would want to get a table next year?
