Jones, Benson back at Bears practice

LAKE FOREST, Ill.  The Chicago Bears on Monday had both of their top two running backs â€â€Thomas Jones and Cedric Benson on the practice field for the first time since training camp began.

Jones went through his first fully padded practice without limitation since suffering a pulled hamstring July 27, the morning of the first training camp workout. Benson returned from a shoulder sprain suffered Aug. 5 to workout in non-contact drills.

"I guess it's cool, but personally it doesn't bring me any excitement because it's just kind of a weird deal," Benson said about the competition between the two for the starting job. "It's just been going back and forth. I was in there, now he's in there, but I'm hurt."

Benson was running plays with the first-team offense from the time training camp started until injuring his left shoulder.

Jones feels like the job should have been his all along, anyway. He lost it because he missed voluntary offseason workouts, but had carries with starters at Halas Hall as the site of Bears practices returned to their permanent north suburban facility.

"Reclaiming my job is something that a lot of people are talking about, and that's fine, but I'm just excited about playing football again," Jones said. "I've missed the whole training camp, and I'm ready to finally play football again and do what I get paid to do."

Jones, who led the team with 1,335 rushing yards last year, isn't certain if he'll play in Friday's preseason game against Arizona at Soldier Field.

"If I didn't play these next two games or play this game, it wouldn't be a factor," the seven-year veteran said. "I'm ready to play. I've played a lot of games, so I know how to prepare myself for the regular season.

"But the fact that I am playing, it's just good for me to get back on the field."

If Andre Hall ever had a facility named after him, would it be called Hall Hall?
