Beat me too it Howie!! Congrats, I hoped the Bucs would take him at 111, but took Will Allen from OSU. Well, now I don't hate the Eagles as much now.

That probably ended with Marquise Cooper in the 3rd last night. I hoped not, but figured probably wouldn't be a Buc now.

Kiper had J.R. on his "Best Available" list just before he was selected..good call by the "draft guru."  I hope to see MoJo get on that list soon.

J.R. on Eagles' Official Site

OVERVIEW

One of the nation's top big-play artists, J.R. is the type that plays as if he is on a "search and destroy" mission, whether in games or practices& Three-year starter who has proven head coach Jim Leavitt correct in his assessment of Reed's star potential& His role model has been Denver Broncos safety John Lynch, patterning his hard-hitting style after the former All Pro& Used as a reserve cornerback as a freshman before taking over free safety duties the following year&

In 2003, he became the first player in school history to score on a kickoff return and fumble recovery in the same season& Started 33 of 44 games, recording 301 tackles (200 solos) with an 8-yard sack, eight stops for losses of 23 yards, five fumble recoveries for 183 yards in returns, including two touchdowns, three forced fumbles, 18 interceptions for 127 yards in returns (7.1 avg.) and a score, 31 pass break-ups, a blocked kick, 18 kickoff returns for 570 yards (31.7 avg.) and a touchdown and four punt returns for 81 yards (20.3 avg.) in returns& Only Kawika Mitchell (367, 1999-2002) and Roy Manns (317, 1997-2000) had more tackles during a career at South Florida& His 18 pass thefts shattered the old USF career record of 10 by Anthony Henry (1997-2000) and his 127 yards on interception returns are topped only by Bernard Brown (131, 1997-2001) on the school's all-time record chart& His 183 yards on fumble returns also set a school career record.

ANALYSIS

Positives: Has a compact frame with a well-developed upper body, thin waist and low body fat& Quick to recognize and react to the running plays& Shows good ball awareness working in the zone& Shows quick feet in his backpedal, breaking sharply to close& Takes proper angles to get to the ball down field and has the ball skills to adjust on the move& Displays natural hands for the interception, timing his leaps to get to the pass at its high point& Extends for the ball to catch away from the body's frame& Keeps leverage on the play when operating near the line, showing toughness taking on the larger blockers& Plays with tremendous enthusiasm and is a very coachable athlete& Not considered a "thumper" when it comes to tackling, but shows explosion on contact.

Negatives: Does not have a good feel for pass routes (will turn late)& Has quickness in his backpedal, but can get a little too high in his stance, resulting in him taking false steps and giving separation& Will round his breaks on the ball& Tries to make the tackle too much, getting outside his frame and not bringing his arms to wrap& Hard worker, but needs to be pushed some (will lose focus).

AGILITY TESTS

4.56 in the 40-yard dash& 360-pound bench press& Bench presses 225 pounds 20 times& 285-pound power clean& 1.58 10-yard dash& 4.12 20-yard shuttle& 11.37 60-yard shuttle& 6.70 three-cone drill& 36½-inch vertical jump& 9-foot-9 broad jump.

HIGH SCHOOL

Attended Hillsborough (Tampa, Fla.) High, playing football for coach Earl Garcia& Played in the first-ever Florida-California All-Star Game& All-Suncoast (St. Petersburg Times), All-District and all-conference pick in 1999& Made all-county in 1998 as well& Ranked 18th in the St. Petersburg Times' top Bay Area recruits list& Made 76 tackles, three interceptions, seven fumble recoveries and four defensive touchdowns in 1999& Considered the most versatile athlete on impressive Hillsborough squad, playing strong safety, wide receiver and kick returner (in addition to all special teams)&

Also said to be most durable player, never missing a practice or game in final two seasons& "A hard-nosed-player, who will never give up" according to his high school coach& A three-year starter& Helped the team advance to the state regional final against eventual state champion Lakeland in 1999& An outstanding student, he was a member of the National Honor Society, an Honor Roll student, and was listed in Who's Who of America High School Students& Also had a dual enrollment at Hillsborough Community College while a senior at Hillsborough High.

PERSONAL

Computer Engineering and Business Administration double major& Son of Dottie Reed& Born Herbert Lee Reed, Jr., (goes by the name J.R.) on Feb. 11, 1982 in Tampa, Fla.
