USF BASEBALL

2007 USF Baseball Schedule Announced

TAMPA, Fla. (August 17, 2006) - Head Coach Lelo Prado and the University

of South Florida baseball team unveiled its schedule for the 2007

campaign today.

Comprised of 56 games, the 2007 schedule will pit the Bulls against five

teams that received bids to the 2006 NCAA Tournament, including National

Seed Georgia Tech. Thirty-eight games will be played at Red McEwen Field

during the 2007 season, including 16-straight from the end of February

to mid March. This year there will be an adjustment to the game times

for USF's home games. Nearly all three-game series will be played on

Friday at 6 p.m., Saturday at 6 p.m. and Sunday at noon.

USF opens the 2007 campaign with a three-game homestand versus High

Point (Feb. 9-11). This will mark the first meeting between the two

teams since 1969. USF holds a 2-0 record all-time over the Panthers.

Following the three-game set with High Pont, the Jacksonville Dolphins

will host the Bulls on Feb. 16. USF will then host JU for two games Feb.

17-18. The former Sun Belt members have met a total of 94 times with USF

trailing 49-45 in the all-time series history.

The Bulls will travel to DeLand, Fla., to take on in-state rival Stetson

on Feb. 20. USF has faced the Hatters more than any other team during

the squad's 41-year history (144 times). Stetson (38-22 in 2006) earned

a berth in the 2006 NCAA Tournament, traveling to the Atlanta Regional.

The Bulls will then kick off a 16-game homestand with a three-game

series versus the Manhattan Jaspers. The Jaspers (34-23 in 2006) earned

their first-ever trip to the NCAA Tournament last season, falling to the

Miami Hurricanes in the finals of the Lincoln Regional. This will be the

first-ever matchup between USF and Manhattan. The Bulls will then play

host to the Florida Gators in a mid-week contest on Feb. 27. The Bulls

will be looking to avenge a 6-5 loss to the Gators last season in

Gainesville. Central Michigan visits Tampa for a three-game set March

2-4. The Chippewas are coming off a 35-23 season and will be making a

return to Red McEwen Field for the first time since 2003. The Bulls play

Stetson in a mid-week contest (March 6) before hosting the Michigan

State Spartans March 9-11. USF holds a 3-0 record all-time versus the

Spartans, who were swept by the Bulls in a three-games series in 1991.

The Redhawks of Miami (OH) make their first-ever trip to Red McEwen

field as USF faces Missouri Athletics Conference member for the first

time on March 13. USF welcomes Pittsburgh in the Bulls' BIG EAST

Conference opener March 16-18. USF and Pittsburgh will be meeting for

only the fourth time with the Panthers holding a 2-1 edge in the series

history. Second-year Division I member North Florida will square off

with USF on March 20. This will mark only the second meeting all-time

between the Bulls and the team from Osprey.

Playing its first game away from Red McEwen Field in more than a month,

USF will travel to Indiana to face the defending BIG EAST Champion

(regular season and tournament) Notre Dame Fighting Irish (March 23-25).

The Irish (45-15 last year) were the BIG EAST's lone representative in

the NCAA Tournament last season. The trip will also mark the first time

in 2007 that the Bulls travel outside the state of Florida.

USF will head back home to take on the Florida A&M Rattlers in a

two-game mid-week series (March 27-28). The Bulls hold a commanding 31-3

advantage in the series history with the Rattlers.

The Bulls will next make their first-ever trip to Storrs, Conn., to face

the Connecticut Huskies in a three-game BIG EAST series (March 30-April

1). Last year's weekend set turned out to be an instant classic as each

game between the first-time opponents was decided by the last plate

appearance. USF holds a 2-1 advantage over the Huskies.

UCF kicks off a five-game homestand for the Bulls with a mid-week

contest on April 3. USF took two-of-three games versus the Golden

Knights in 2005. The Bulls hold a 48-47 edge in the series history with

their rivals in Orlando. USF hosts West Virginia April 5-7. The series

will mark the second-ever series between the two BIG EAST foes and the

first-ever for the Mountaineers at Red McEwen Field. Stetson closes out

the five game homestand, making its second trip of the season to Tampa

on April 10.

USF travels to the Keystone State to face Villanova (April 13-15) in the

first-ever BIG EAST contest between the two teams. The Bulls and

Wildcats have met a total of two times (1975, 1985) with USF owning a

2-0 record versus Villanova.

UCF returns to Red McEwen Field on April 17 before Rutgers makes its BIG

EAST Conference debut in Tampa with a three-game series April 20-22.

Rutgers and USF did not meet during the 2006 season. USF and Rutgers met

in 1983 with the Bulls take all three games of a weekend series with the

Scarlet Knights.

The Bulls close out their season series with UCF on April 24 in Orlando.

This will mark the only trip to UCF for USF in 2007. The Bulls head to

Louisville (April 27-29) in Coach Prado's return to the Bluegrass State.

USF took two-of-three games from the Cardinals last season with the

Bulls owning a 35-19 record all-time versus Louisville. The Cardinals

(31-29 in 2006) made it to the BIG EAST Championship Game last season.

USF will take a break from BIG EAST action when they play host to

Georgia Tech (May 4-6). The Yellow Jackets finished the 2006 season with

a 45-16 record, earning a No. 8 National Seed in the 2006 NCAA

Tournament.

Seton Hall will host USF in the Bulls' final road series of the 2006

season (May 8-10). The trip will mark the first-ever visit for the Bulls

to South Orange, N.J. Last season, USF met Seton Hall for the first

time, sweeping the Pirates at Red McEwen Field in an early-season

conference series.

The Bulls will wrap up the 2007 regular season when they host St.

John's. USF will look to improve its record versus the Red Storm, which

took two-of-three games from the Bulls last season.

The BIG EAST Championship will take place May 23-27 at a site yet to be

determined.

We must know someone in the athletics dept. there.  Women's soccer plays them in the season opener here on Thursday.
