"I'm praying for him while he's doing some soul searching," Leavitt said. "In the meantime I'm getting [freshman] Carlton Mitchell ready to play." Leavitt said Jackson had some personal issues and wasn't sure when  or if  Jackson would return. Jackson was dismissed near the end of Tuesday's practice by Leavitt after Jackson was "chirping" to the coaches during the team's sprints. Last year Jackson was USF's second-leading receiver with 22 catches for 242 yards. Against Louisville, he rushed for 63 yards (TDs of 51 and 12 yards), threw an 11-yard TD pass and caught two passes for 75 yards in earning Big East Player of the Week honors. BULLS NAB WR/CB: North Fort Myers WR/CB Quenton Washington (6-0, 170) verbally committed to USF, the Bulls' seventh commitment for 2007. "South Florida got in the first dibs over the summer," North Fort Myers coach James Iandoli said. "Some of the smaller programs were trying to scoop him up. He was a sleeper and blossomed over the summer." Iandoli said Eastern Kentucky was Washington's only other offer. ODDS AND ENDS: Leavitt said he "was not planning" on Santa Monica College DT James Jackson joining the team. Jackson is the ninth player USF signed in February that did not meet academic entrance requirements. … The Pinellas County alumni chapter will hold a preseason tailgate celebration Saturday from 2-6 p.m. at Capogna's Dugout, 1653 Gulf to Bay Blvd. in Clearwater. For information, call (727) 441-4791. … USF's specialist leaders: Taurus Johnson and Trae Williams (kickoff returns), Williams (punt returns), Ilia Petrov (punter), Mike Benzer (place-kicker) and Justin Teachey (kickoffs).http://www.tbo.com/sports/bulls/MGBDSVCHYQE.html

That said, I don't think it's the wisest thing for someone who is part of a very deep position to get 'chirpy'.

He's fine, no problems. He missed Wednesday's practices because of a family illness, and returned to the team even earlier than expected. Coach Jim Leavitt said that if Jackson wasn't OK with coaches, he wouldn't have been practicing with his teammates ...

The vantage point from California is clearly superior to this taken at Friday's practice.
