Some thoughts concerning MAC still being our coach

I have made no secret about how poor of a move it was to keep MAC around and I have found a solid summary of why I think it was a poor move.  These are some solid lessons that a good leader would follow if he looked at the present condition of our basketball program.  I copy and pasted from a site that I read everyday.  This guy is very smart and would conclude the same thing with Mac.  "This dog don't hunt, Pull this turkey."

------

1. No matter how far down the wrong road you’ve traveled, always turn back.

People hate to lose time “invested†in a task they have miscalculated on. Time is the most scarce resource of life, yet its taken for granted by those who are too proud to admit they made a mistake.

Not too long ago, I chased a girl I shouldn’t have. The warning signs were there from the start, but I ignored them because I was seduced with the idea of sleeping with her. By date five, I went so far in the wrong direction that turning back seemed like the harder route to take. I couldn’t just let go of all the money, time, and emotional energy I put in. The easy decision is to coast and let the mistake ride out, but it’s always the wrong decision. You must cut your losses.

There is nothing wrong with making a mistake, but you make things worse by staying blind to your own error. Don’t bother trying to fix a situation you should have avoided in the first place.

2. Comfort is dangerous.

Unless you are of old age and already a scholar of the world, your main focus should be growth. If you are comfortable with what you are doing, there is a good chance you are not stretching yourself to the limits of your ability.

The director of my old department had a habit of putting up motivational quotes during his presentations. I had a favorite: “There is no growth in the comfort zone, and no comfort in the growth zone.†You get drawn into comfort and habit because it offers you stability and peace of mind, but at the same time this decreases your motivation to take risks and learn other things. Unless you are ready to die, choose growth.

3. You learn the most when things go wrong.

It’s hard to learn about yourself if everything goes right: there is no need for introspection or analysis. But when things go wrong, your body is put through stress and your mind is called up to perform. You are forced to break things down to come up with solutions, trying things you’ve never tried. This is the only time you really grow as a person.

In my field of work, Murphy’s Law is the rule. Things always go wrong, and for hours I can be staring at a graph or piece of equipment, dissecting the problem to its component parts only to put it back together again. But when things go right, my day is pretty uneventful; I’m a zombie that just goes through the motions. Solve problems, learn from them, and then put that experience in your toolbox when you encounter something similar in the future. Because you will.

Could we wait till it's basketball season before calling for the coaches head. Football hasn't even started yet. Can we wait until November before we start this discussion.

Get real, we are all either Alumni, fans, interested parties ect. We all should know that USF does not usually terminate a head coach before their contract runs out. The only head coach that I can remember that was fired before their contract ran out was womens v-ball coach Perry Hankins. I think there was "off-the court" situations that percipitated that firing. The womens v-ball was winning and in great shape when she was suddenly fired.

USF is not going to eat RMC's salary and then have to pay a "Top" coach salary that they want to coach in the Big East.

I think that this is the last year of RMC's contract. That works out well. He has his kids, we better see a dramatic turnaround or Doug will do the same thing that he did with Eddie Cardieri....

That is what I see as REALITY

JMHO

1. No matter how far down the wrong road you’ve traveled, always turn back.

I agree completely ........ once it has been determined it's the wrong road.

2. Comfort is dangerous.

Again, I agree. Problem is, no one is really "comfortable" with the current situation. I haven't seen a lifetime contract given out ...

3. You learn the most when things go wrong.

Wow, three in a row!! Agree again. With all that has gone wrong here the last few years, we were still able to beat 3 Top 25 teams and advance to the CUSA conf tourney semis for the first time ever. The more astute of us DID learn something when things went wrong.

Thanks for inspiration, Ari.   8-)

Let me ask you this Ari.....what if the Bulls go out and play .500 ball this year? Are you still calling for Mac's head?

I truly think you and your lackeys/other personas are pulling for Mac and the Bulls to fail this season, which is total BS. Why don't you wait and see how the season plays out before you go calling for a new coach. I personally think the Bulls will surprise some this year.

You know, I really do not care that Ari has posted this.  Those that disagree can state so...if you are tired of it, you can ignore Ari's post.

I actually give credit to Ari for not hijacking another post to drone on about RMC...he started his own thread and it can either prosper or die (Should no one wish to carry on this debate this time of year it would certainly die).

BTW, I am not looking to stamp out any negatives against RMC, I just want them to be fair assessments, free from insults, name-calling and other disrespectful, juvenile acts.  I do not want to see Ari's or any member's repeated comment on every thread even when it is only vaguely in context.

In summary, if Ari wants to make a post, let him.  If it is worthy of mature debate or conversation - fine.  If not, it will slip off the first page within hours.  He's not hijacking every basketball thread and that is the warning I intended in my message to all members.

But yes, while I do not demand "this topic" dies, it surely is encouraged...we should be enjoying football.  Ari's asking for RMC to be fired is ridiculous at this juncture and while he continues to rail on about it, I'd suggest his posts be met with silence by those that wish not to perpetuate such posts.
