(August 14, 2006) – USF head coach Jim Leavitt may not know which of his quarterbacks will start the season opener September 2 against McNeese State, but he continues to note the overall leadership at the position, and he also singled out two freshmen after today’s two-a-day session. “I really like the leadership at the quarterback position,†Leavitt said. “The whole group is really working hard with lots of intensity. It’s the best leadership we’ve had there in the last few years.†Meanwhile, freshman receiver Carlton Mitchell (Tampa, Fla.) and freshman running back Keeley Dorsey (Tallahassee, Fla.) have caught Leavitt’s attention over the past few practices. Leavitt indicated both may play this season. That feat might be especially impressive for Mitchell, a speedy 6-3 target out of Gaither High School. The Bulls return several experienced receivers in S.J. Green, Amarri Jackson, Jackie Chambers, Marcus Edwards, Taurus Johnson and Jessie Hester. USF also welcomes LSU transfer Amp Hill and senior Ean Randolph enjoyed an outstanding spring to throw himself into competition for playing time. Dorsey will try to move up into the ranks of returnees Ricky Ponton, Moise Plancher and Walt Smith to replace USF’s all-time leading rusher Andre Hall. Seriously, if a freshman can crack the line-up and grab playing time then I say you give it to him. It will help the future of this team because playing time will develop those players. Besides, both are not the only players at their position in this recruiting class. If Keeley gets minutes you can still RS Aston Samuels, and at WR Sherman and Alcin to provide more depth in future years.

If Phil Voss was a Super Bowl winning QB with the New York Giants, everybody would be all over Alton. Look at the rivals page where they got that information. They have Simms ranked in the same NUMERICAL TIER as Voss. 5.5 v. 5.7......not too big of a difference, if any.
