We scored a touchdown. We had a lot of momentum going. We thought they were trying to stop the run. We decided everyone would be coming forward to stop the run and it would be a pretty good call to make."Story LinkIn this story, also posted on the state of Florida board, coaches from around the state talk about their gutsiest play calls...the one that sticks in my mind for South Florida dates back to the Inaugural Season against Ga. Southern. Maybe not mentioned due to the level of competition, the time passed, or the fact it didn't work!

Guest
how bout the fake punt against oklahoma in the first half that worked, except for the penalty called on usI thought that was a WR pass by SJ Green.I would add the first pass to Amarri Jackson on the first play from scrimmage against Miami. Had he caught the ball, it would have been USF 7 Miami 0. Instead he dropped it, and it was all down hill from there. This was gutsy because the exact same play was used a week before against Louisville, and Jackson almost scored on that play. Not going for a field goal at the very end of the first half of the TCU game in 2003. TCU won the game 13-10, ending USF's 21-game home winning streak. Leavitt called a pass play to get a few more yards, and Ronnie Banks was sacked. USF was out of time outs and the half ended. The kick would have been long (50+ yards) but Santiago Grammatica probably could have made it.Using Brian Fisher in the 2003 Louisville Game for touchdowns inside the five yard line. Fisher's play enabled USF to win the game in 2 OT.

It was a gimmick play but not a gutsy one. We were in the red zone we should have been able to pound it in.The dumbest call was not punting when we had TCU at home just before the half. We went for it on 4th down and they got the ball and scored a field goal. Well, that and Voodoo 5 was also stupid. Oh, and anytime we ran the "Wacky Bull". The gutsy call I remember was going for 2 at the end of the game our first year. The fans were going crazy calling for the "Go for 2" and coach went with it. **** gutsy call. (See it was still gutsy even though it didnt work....Voodoo 5 was just crap)

It took a good deal of guts to make that decision even though the play didn't work.

Southern was a gutsy play call. I remember going nuts when we scored the TD and liking the call by Leavitt to go for it.
