Freshman Andra Manson wins high jump at 110th Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – University of Texas freshman All-American Andra Manson (Brenham, Texas) cleared 7 feet, 5 inches to win the championship section of the college men's high jump on the final day of action Saturday at the 110th Penn Relays before 50,000 fans at Franklin Field in Philadelphia. Manson becomes UT's first Penn Relays champion since All-American Brian Hunter won his second of two pole vault titles in 2002, and Texas' first high jump champion at the meet since All-American Mark Boswell claimed his third consecutive crown in 2000. Manson's title gives Texas its 11th overall Penn Relays individual or relay crown since 1994.

Senior All-American Jermaine Cooper (Giddings, Texas) also had an outstanding day in his final Penn Relays as a Longhorn as he finished runner-up in the 110-meter hurdles, while also running the first leg on UT's 4x100m relay which finished third in the championship finals and improved its regional qualifier.

In the championship high jump, Manson cleared each height he attempted on his first jump. The only height Manson was unable to clear on his first attempt was after he had topped 7-5 (2.26m) to claim the title, he attempted 7-7.75 (2.33m) twice before passing on his third attempt and receiving a champion's cheer from the 50,000 fans in attendance. If Manson had cleared 7-7.75, it would have set a new personal-best for the 2004 NCAA Indoor high jump champion. With his clearance of 7-5, Manson joins Desmond Harris as UT's fifth-best all-time performers outdoors in the high jump and ranks among the five best marks in the world so far this season.

The Drakes carry as much weight as the Penns. Not sure if JB can wear any USF stuff iwhen he makes the O Team. If I do see him I'll tell him you all asked and are giving him the support!
