What's your feeling any or all of the following?

1) the high rainbow where our receiver goes up to get it over a shorter DB.

2) the option play (Pat had some nice gains at times last year).

3) the lateral throw to a receiver who tries to be a running back.

4) the end-around

5) not huddling, including the quick snap

Love It ! We have some serious height and need to use it to our advantage in the End Zones!

Once in a while is fine, keeps the D guessing. (GrothE will run this well)  ;)

3) the lateral throw to a receiver who tries to be a running back.

Ahhhh ... use even less than the prior play.

4) the end-around

With our speed, use it - but still not too often.

5) not huddling, including the quick snap

Love It ! Call the plays at the line.

1) the high rainbow where our receiver goes up to get it over a shorter DB.

We should use this play for several reasons.  Not only should we use it to take advantage of the height and athletic advantage of our receivers, we should use it to loosen up the defense and open up the short quick hitters and running game.  Our running game would have benefitted a lot last year if we would have tried the deep pass more than about three times all last year.

2) the option play (Pat had some nice gains at times last year).

Isn't this a pretty big part of running the spread?  We should use it a lot.

3) the lateral throw to a receiver who tries to be a running back.

I would rather run some quick slants and quick hitters and let the recievers get their YAC.  Let them use their athleticism.

4) the end-around

I never want to see this play ever again.  I think it has worked once in the last three years and that was the broken play when Amarri fumbled the hand off against Cincinnati.  never ever, ever want to see it again, but we will run it three to four times a game for a net less of about 5 yards a play.  At some point Smith needs to understand that the other team has pretty fast players at this level.  it's not high school anymore where we can simply our run the other team based on better athletes.  irt didn't even work in the spring game.

5) not huddling, including the quick snap

I like it.  Didn't we have our best success on offense when we ran this offense?

Didn't he get a TD against L'ville on this play?

Why I said:

...

Actually twice ... 51 & 12 Yard TD's.

For the year he was 7 ATT for 86 Yards (12.3 Avg) & 3 TD's

T. Johnson was 1 for 7

Chambers had 1 ... for ZERO  :P

Hester & Green each had 2 carries and both Avg'd a -5.5 yards.

::)

1) the high rainbow where our receiver goes up to get it over a shorter DB.  This is among the only throws PJ can make, so lets use it!  Its even cooler when he yells "50 points!!!!!" as he throws it.  Use this when appropriate, its good and USF is not the only team that does it.

2) the option play (Pat had some nice gains at times last year).  If we're using PJ, we might as well actually USE him.  His running is probably his strength, as he's a load to bring down.  However, I have doubts about this guy running it well on a consistant basis.  4-5 times a game would work.

3) the lateral throw to a receiver who tries to be a running back.  Not to be confused with the screen play?  Typically, this is the same thing, and we should run it a couple times a game - preferably when the opponent is blitzing.  The trick play - lateral to the WR who then throws it, should be EXTREMELY rare.

4) the end-around - Well, we all harbor some negative feelings about this being used too much.  I'd only like to see it about once every other game or so.  It is very, very strong against d lineman that crash one way too much.  This is something that needs be seen upstairs before it is called!

5) not huddling, including the quick snap - I don't care.  I'd prefer the huddle.  Defense is our strength, and any time you call crap at the line is harder on the QB.  We don't have that kind of QB right now fellas.

Okay I HATE the high rainbow. HATE HATE HATE IT.

Why you might ask? Becuase in addition to height our receivers have speed, pretty good speed. The high rainbow doesnt keep the defense honest and open up the run game like some mentioned. The defensive backs have time to react to the high rainbow, therefore they can react to the ball in the air.  The high rainbow hasnt been that effective. It puts our receivers in a very tough situation to catch a ball and get hit by a safety who just ran 20 yards to get the the rainbow ball.  We throw that ball to the sideline so right away there is a 50/50 shot of the ball carrying out of bounds. Now throw in the fact that the defensive player will break up 50% of the plays we now have a 25% effective play. Plus the ZERO YAC (yards after the catch)

I'd rather we ran an offense that didnt rely on the jump ball/hope for an interference call. I'd much rather see our receivers get hit with the ball in stride and keep running.

We throw that high ball jump crap becuase its Rod Smiths only pass play he can come up with.

If you want to take advantage of the height throw the ball high to the receiver in a pattern. We still have the height advantage.

And on a trivia note, this is USF's First Ever Offensive Play ... which produced a first down ... and the "receiver" was ?

8-)
