Hill Leaving USF For Junior College

Skip directly to the full story.

TAMPA University of South Florida sophomore Carlton Hill, the most heralded recruit in USF history, said he will attend junior college this fall.

"Everything happens for a reason," Hill said. "I need to take some time off and get my mind right and do some soul searching. If God sends me back to USF [after a year of junior college], then that’s what I’ll do."

Hill played sparingly last season at quarterback and wide receiver, but was named USF’s starting quarterback by Coach Jim Leavitt entering spring drills. However, Hill missed most of spring practice because of academic problems and lost his starting position. During the summer, Leavitt moved Hill to wide receiver. Last month, Hill was arrested on misdemeanor charges of possession of marijuana.

"It [going to junior college] doesn’t mean someday he won't be our quarterback," Leavitt said. "He needs to get focused on some other things. It would be great to get him a year away and let him play somewhere to play more at quarterback. That would be the ultimate.

"Right now he’s focused on classes. He has some other things off the field he has to deal with. I think the world of the young man, but some of the decisions he's made haven't been the best. That doesn't mean I don't love this guy and care for him deeply."

If Hill returns to USF in 2007, he would have two years of eligibility remaining.

Now the UCF fans are going to tell us about how O'leary would have sent the kid to Siberia. I hope things work out for Hill and in a year he finds his way back to the Bulls a changed man, if not I wish him the best wherever he ends up.

I wish him luck. Hope he straightens his life out. This actually makes me feel good. Leavitt is not taking ****. We are big time now 1 player is not worth the team.

Does that mean he won't be winning those multiple Heismans he spoke of on the CJL show? ****.

Good luck C-4. Hope to see you next year.
