ONE MORE NOTE: Hard to say it's news when I'm breaking something that actually happened seven weeks ago, but Bulls forward Melvin Buckley, the team's top returning scorer from last season, underwent arthroscopic surgery to repair a damaged meniscus in his left knee early last month. Buckley told me Wednesday that he's been back practicing in the past week and expects the surgery to have no impact on the upcoming season. Point guard Chris Howard has also been cleared to play for about three weeks, with forward Zaronn Cann still rehabbing from his own knee surgery.

Buckley told me one thing he likes about the upcoming team is its improved strength. He said the Bulls will have four players next season who can bench-press 300 pounds or more: himself, Cann, Melvyn Richardson and by fall, Kentrell Gransberry. USF's three freshmen report to campus this weekend for summer B classes, and the Bulls will hope to get good news on recruit Hernol Hall after he makes his final visit to Oklahoma this weekend.

why are basketball players bragging about bench press? I'd rather them be bragging about squats/deadlifts

Given the fact we've been pushed around by most bigger teams the past few years that's probably a good sign.  You've got to assume that stat is something our hoops team hasn't had in a while, and I am sure they haven't forgotten to do squats and deadlifting in their rotation.  I doubt the team is only benching, so if they're making strides on the bench then that probably means there doing well in all the other strength and conditioning categories.

Lets win 5 games in-conference.

I just want that season to pass so we can hire a decent coach.

Too bad for you we'll win much more than 5, and keep our decent coach.

Running Back... USF all time leading rusher.

I think he is asking about Hernol Hall and what position he plays.
