USF’s Thed Watson Named To Outland Trophy Watch List

TAMPA, FLA. (June 19, 2006) -- Thed Watson, a senior offensive tackle on the USF football team, is one of 54 linemen on the 2006 Outland Trophy Watch List announced today by the Football Writers Association of America.

The Outland Trophy has been granted to the top offensive or defensive lineman in college football since 1946. The winner is chosen by the FWAA All-America committee.

Watson, 6-5, 295, is USF’s starting left tackle, and he was named second team all-Big East in 2005 after transferring to USF from junior college. He has been named a preseason all-Big East choice this year by The Sporting News and Blue Ribbon Magazine.

Watson, a graduate of Lakewood High School in St. Petersburg, Fla., is the second USF player to be named to a Watch List. Linebacker Stephen Nicholas (Jacksonville, Fla.) is on the Bronco Nagurski Trophy Watch List and he is expected to be named to the Butkus Award Watch List for a third straight season.

First time I can remember USF has had two guys on different watch lists for different positions.  If the offense can come together this could be an exciting season.

Has the watch list for the thorpe award come out?  It wouldn't surprise me if Jenkins made that one too.

not only do we need the qb to come together, but we also need the field goal kicker to be better than what he started the season last year.  and our punter/place kicker is untested
