USF’s Gennifer Mendez Advances At Women’s Southern Amateur

PINEHURST, NC (June 6, 2006) PINEHURST, NC (June 6, 2006) USF sophomore-to-be Gennifer Mendez advanced to the round of 16 at the Women’s Southern Golf Association Amateur today with a 1-up match play win over Rachel Poole of Elk City, Okla. Mendez had shot a 74 on Monday to qualify for the match play portion of the tournament.

Mendez, from North Port, Fla., will play Virginia Derby Grimes on Wednesday in the round of 16. Derby Grimes, the former coach at Auburn, is a two time Women's Southern Champion. The tournament concludes with a 36-hole match play final on  Friday at the Country Club of North Carolina’s Dogwood Course in Pinehurst.
