Men’s Tennis Inks Six to 2006-07 Recruiting Class

TAMPA, Fla. (June 1, 2006) – University of South Florida men’s tennis coach Don Barr announced Thursday the signing of six newcomers to the 2006-07 team. The list of signees include: Keith Embree, Daniel Daudt, Diego Toledo, Henning Hipp, Thomas Estrada and Ales Svigelj.

Embree comes to USF from Lely High School in Naples, Fla. where he is top 10 in the state of Florida and top 100 in the 18 and under rankings. He came in third in the Florida Designated and reached the quarterfinals of the National Open, finishing fifth. Embree was recently crowned the class 2A Singles State Champion.

Daudt, one of two Brazilians in the signing class has twice represented his country in the Sudamerican Tournament, once in the World Junior Tennis Final and is a three-time member of the Brazil Squad. He has the distinction of winning the Gerdau Cup and has won the COSAT of Brazil doubles tournament.

Joining his fellow countrymen Daudt, Toledo is no stranger to top competition making it to the quarterfinals of the Brazil Futures Tournament in 2005. Playing mainly on clay courts in junior competition, Toledo will look to adjust his game to the hard courts at USF.

Hipp joins coach Barr’s squad with an impressive junior resume. He is currently ranked 281 in men’s and 106 in boys under 21 in Germany. He is the winner of several Bezirksmeisterschaften tournaments in singles in addition to doubles. He has qualified for the Junior Nationals (singles and doubles) as well as the German National Team Championships. Hipp has also practiced three years with the federation, where the best players in the state come and practice.

Estrada comes to USF as a doubles specialist. Included in his many doubles victories are the 2004 Banana Bowl (Brazil), Uruguay Bowl, Milo Cup, and the Asuncion Bowl in 2003. He has also been a singles finalist at the Uruguay Bowl as well as a singles quarterfinalist at the Banana Bowl (Brazil) and the Asuncion Bowl.

The final piece of the 06-07 recruiting class is Svigelj from Ljublja, Slovenia. He made it past 128 players to advance to the USA F10 Futures round of 32. He was a doubles finalist at the Interspot Open, semifinalist at the Azur 7 Open and Losinj Cup in addition to being a doubles finalist at the Corfu, GRE ITF G5.
