Another piece of the National Championship team falls into place....

From our man Greg:

MORE SOFTBALL: Eriksen already has two of the Big East's best pitchers returning in sophomore Bree Spence and freshman Cristi Ecks, as well as a strong transfer in former Syracuse ace Courtney Mosch. You can add another solid pitcher to Eriksen's 2007 staff: Cocoa High senior Kristen Gordon, who had a streak of 57 consecutive scoreless innings this season.

Gordon has some crazy statistics -- four no-hitters and two perfect games this season, with 352 strikeouts in leading Cocoa to the state semifinals. The Bulls will lose some key bats to graduation, but will have a pitching staff as deep and talented as any in the program's history.

I'm not sure if this was report elsewhere, but he also got a commitment from a high school junior from NJ:

I looked at it a little differently...wondering how many pitchers you can really use...UCLA rode the back of one pitcher for the two game series and may well have used her in game 3 if necessary...but it is nice to have the high level of competition on the team.  I don't know much about the rules of softball, but with the players alowwed to re-enter the game, I have to wonder how you work in 4 top flite pitchers.  But what do I know about softball?  Nothing.

I think we hit about as well as UCLA - just not as timely...we could not hit worth a darn with RISP.

Great read.  I how the writer describes Erickson as, "one of the best in the world"

Those pitchers will only help our batters... if they see top notch pitching in practice everyday... they will be accustomed to the likes of PAC-10 play come the season and post season.

Any chance we might redshirt one or two of the youngsters?

Has USF become a women's sport school?  Consider both of the big women's sports are now national contenders.  Or does football reign over all and everythang else be damned?

I think it's happenstance, but regardless of what gender's team does the best it will help the entire program.  I'm sure DW will do his best to bring all programs up to speed.

Would love to get that Sears Trophy one day.

Now all we need is for Volleyball to return to its form under Hankins and make the next step...
