from Bien (on the other thread):

Who was/is Leavitt's best recruit?  As Leavitt will tell everyone he never rates recruits until about 2-3 years after signing.  It's hard to label anyone in the last 2 years as the 'best recruit' since they haven't produced enough or had enough time to be productive.  I look at the 'best recruit' based on the best production.

Let's start with who's Leavitt's best recruit from a production standpoint?  Who's Leavitt's most highly acclaimed recruit (and in my mind it isn't Hill)?

The questions are do transfers count or are they in a seperate category, also let's look at acclaimed recruits who made it on campus but never on the field.

I would say have a category for both HS recruits and transfers/jucos...

my votes:

Most highly acclaimed (HS):  Hill, unless Stirrups counts (?)

Most highly acclaimed (xfer/juco):  Hill (AMP)

Most successful (x/j):  Hall

Most successful (hs):  Blackwell

You da man Velcro!

Highly acclaimed out of HS-  I'd have to say Dishon Platt (#1 receiver in the country, top 25 player, but he came to USF only after being denied admissions at FSU), next it's a tie for me between Antwan Fleming, the rotund LB from Plant City that signed with us, came to fall camp at 260lbs, and never stopped ballooning until he was playing for an NAIA at DT.  Although, I think Hill or Stirrups are the best possibilities because they come with less baggage than the aforementioned (if you can believe that).  A very close runner-up Cedric Bell.

Most highly acclaimed (xfer/juco)-  I agree Amp Hill, but Kawika Mitchell out of HS had offers from UGA, UF, Miami, and ND....they didn't have rivals and scout when he was coming out.

Most successful (x/j): tie- hall and Mitchell

Most successful (hs): totally blackwell.

I'd like throw in five more categories.

Biggest surprise recruit (hs)- the best diamond in the rough discovered by Leavitt:

The recruits in 2006 class with the most promise:

2005 with the most promise:

Biggest BUST ever (this one should be a player that actually practiced and stayed with the team for at least a year or two and never lived up to potential so the Platts of the world don't count):

The best walk-on (hs or transfer):

Surprise/Diamond in the rough- a tie between Anthony Henry and Stephen Nicholas...honorable mention falls to St. Louis.

2006 recruit:  I love Sabbath Joseph, and Labrandon Glover.

2005: Taurus Johnson

Bust: Cedric bell

walk-on:  Sheriff of course, but after that Ryan Hearn

ok, for your extra categories:

Biggest surprise recruit (hs)- the best diamond in the rough discovered by Leavitt:   would Blackwell not count as a diamond in the rough?

The recruits in 2006 class with the most promise:

Agreed on 06

2005 with the most promise:

Carlton Hill

Biggest BUST ever (this one should be a player that actually practiced and stayed with the team for at least a year or two and never lived up to potential so the Platts of the world don't count):

Hopefully this one ISN'T Carlton Hill after next season...

This one has to go to the 8'0 QB from PA that set all the HS records and runs a 2.2 40  ;)

The best walk-on (hs or transfer):

???  no idea

Guest BasketBull.

Are you kidding me? The Sheriff --Terry Lucas!

...he has scored more than any football player at USF, and that's not counting the fact that he played both ways!  ::)

flsports....I think peyton as the bust is very valid.  Easily in the top 5.  I went back to 1997-98, and Ced Bell came to USF as a top 5 OL from FL, had offers to FSU and others but academics and laziness got in the way.  Walked from USF before contributing.

But Peyton's a **** good one!

I couldn't put Peyton first in that list because he actually did contribute well.  Maybe not as much as he could have, but at least some.

My definition of a bust would have to be someone that had a lot of hype and then never contributed.  Just my thought.

That was my only reservation with Peyton too, he fits into a number of categories.  He was one of the best in 2004.

Just because the coaching staff had something against Peyton doesnt mean he wasnt our most consistant reciever last year and possibly the year before.
