Yep, pathetic.  Florida, Florida State, Miami (women's), Florida Atlantic, Univ of Tampa, North Florida (women's), Florida International, Florida Gulf Coast, Florida A&M, Rollins, St. Leo, Florida Southern....

But not USF....

USF would easily be in Title IX regulations if it fielded a team of 22 women/18 men.  18 travel for each, but if the roster includes 22, that's the number counted towards the Title IX count.  And that's a very realistic swim team squad.

Its a lil more than that Warped. I think right now USF is meeting Title IX by showing a move toward standard proportionality....Most schools aren't 100 title IX you must show that you can show compliance

1) Standard Proportionality to student body

2) Continuing Practice of Female Athletics Expansion

3) By Meeting All of the Interests of the Current Female (or Male in rare cases) in Athletics (impossible at a school our size)

Alright, a quick look makes it roughly 60/40 women/men at USF.  Assuming USF is Title IX compliant now (haven't read anything signficant that USF isn't), then adding a swim team isn't impossible in the Title IX aspects.  Almost all swim teams that field both men and women include more women than men.  On a 40-person squad, that would mean 24 and 16.  Problem is you score (travel) up to 18, so you'd need atleast 26-27 women.  Still can be done really without much problem, IMHO.

The team might be proportional for Title IX, but you'd be adding men...there is the problem when the school isn't within a 3% or (there is no set percentages, courts have usually held this number to be fair) adding men's athletics screams Title IX problems.

Ok, I guess the confusion comes here: is USF Title IX compliant right now?  If not, why haven't there been sanctions and/or changes by Woolard?  If so, adding a proportional amount of women-to-men in a single sport should theoretically keep the school at the same compliance level, correct?

Warped is has to be substantially proprtional to the student body make up. It fluctuates every year. No school is 100% in compliance with that rule, but as long as they are a few percentage points away they are deemed safe. The problem with adding mens team is the fact that it could be challenged by someone as knocking the standard proportionality.

It is a lot to explain, but I can email you some info if you want it.
