I still don't know how to embed these things

Tune in this week while we try to make sense of this USF football team, I start my rant against Salute to Service, and we wonder if we'll ever know defense again.

I agree.  It's frustrating, but we can get there with Coach Go.

Solid podcast and great humor.  The defense needs help in the backfield. The one thing I can't understand is all three of the defensive coordinators keep running  schemes that use 5 defensive backs and it is clear over the last four years our defensive backs can't cover or tackle effectively.  Why do we keeping running a 5db defensive scheme when it is obvious  we don't have the defensive backs to run 5 defensive backs every play.

20 and 21 Glenn Spencer 3-3-5

22 Bob Shoops 4-2-5

23 Todd Orlando 3-3-5

The 3-4-4 would be better suited to these players.

Probably.  Can they top 59? Warner can throw , it is in his genes.

Not a chance! Even if we spot them 14 at the beginning of the game (like we seem to be so good at), I don't see it happening.

This is an excellent question to consider.

They will probably score around 56 points given recent history.

When you have don't have 5 average or better defensive backs for going on four seasons now , why would any dc want to out 2-4 defensive backs players that are below average to bad fbs starters every single play? I understand how the 3-3-5 scheme works, but having five defensive backs out every play when 2-4 could not start on any other team has killed his team for almost four seasons. The beat three dbs we Evans,Brown , and Stokes have been caught being lost do many times in the zone coverage.  The secondary has been the Achilles heel for years and we keep running schemes that the   defensive backs should be your strength.  The issue could be a talent issue, coaching issue, player not covering their zone correctly, or a scheme issue. It seems it is possibly part all of the above. The tackling has gotten better and the tackled for loss is better under Orlando. Other than that a below average qb can light up usf with the passing game. We saw the Mac backup  transfer playing at fau light us up and the backup qb for memphis tear us up. These are not quality starting quarter backs or top 50 qbs and they make our passing defense look like a high school defense among against college teams.
