For me it's the "This DC doesn't want to let the defense be a passive sieve" effect. I'm sure there will be games where our defense just gets outclassed, but I'd rather we're beat playing aggressive than sitting back and watching the QB sit back and pick the D apart with ease. I'm choosing to believe that the new DC will make a very positive difference for us

Amen.  The prevent defense sucks.  So maybe you decrease the chance of getting beat on the big play, but you just delay the inevitable by letting them get 1st downs on every play until they eventually score.  Even funnier is half the time you STILL get beat on the big play because someone misses a tackle.

It's the Gerry effect.

10-3 talent on a team that USF rallied in the 2nd half... and could have tied if the defense could have gotten the ball back in the final five minutes of the game.

And it is the Tyler Allgeier is gone effect for me.  If our pass defense wasn't so porous he would have ran all over us.

MY dad play college  football on the defensive line and coached my brother for football growing up.  He said the prevent defense is only good at one thing only preventing you from winning. I was the outcast for sports because I choose baseball and hockey. I still loved playing it but got my physicals fix checking people instead of tackling them.

Understand many don't expect our beloved BULLS to defeat the Cougars of BYU.

BUT . . . if/when we are winners - does your outlook of this 2022 team change?

Go BULLS !!!

My expectation for the season is 6 wins - if we pull the shocker and beat BYU, then my thought is we probably have a 7-8 win team

I just don’t think we have the overall depth or team cohesion with the coaching staff at this point, for a BYU win to carry us further than 8

Now if we do go 8-4, with GB coming back in ‘23, that could be a special year

With ucf , Cincinnati and Houston all leaving , and Gerry staying in 2023, USF might be a heavy favorite to win the AAC in 2023 if we can win eight games this season.

IMO, starting next season there is absolutely no reason or excuse for USF to not be a top three team in the new and weakened AAC on an annual basis.

I always said that to my players, but in my case as a fan with this team, it’s been so long I don’t know if I could do that.

Opening day is always a crap shoot.  Teams come that basically are brand new.

This is why it's totally possible.  That being said it could be a dumpster fire too.  Not going to miss this game!

That's all we do because we have swagger.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
