Both schools are very similar. They've been consistently successful on the athletics front though.

And have been plugging away a tad bit longer than we have ... basketball since 1901, football 1895.

They also made a serious financial commitment/investment in their athletic program several years ago and it has paid off. Our turn to do the same.

The University of Cincinnati subsidizes its athletic department with just shy of $30 million each year, or roughly 40 percent of its annual budget. It’s a massive and at times controversial financial commitment, but that’s the cost of doing business for a Group of 5 program trying to keep up with (and often outranking) its Power 5 peers. Scared money don’t make no money, as the saying goes, and if that power-conference windfall eventually arrives, it will have been a worthwhile investment.

Great news! This is the type of thing that really helps conferences. UCF is under 5% remaining. Houston usually sells 15k.

Should leave a really solid foundation in the AAC for the rest of the teams to build on that success.

Our relative youth shouldn't preclude us from having been more consistent in sports. See exhibit A out east. We had a series of bad hires and fell asleep at seriously investing in athletics.

Absolutely ..... and the coaching hires that haven't worked out contribute far more than the excuse of not "investing" in athletics.

When others are investing and we aren’t, it’s a noticeable difference to recruits, players, fans, donors and coaches.

I'm sure some, but Jim and Willie didn't need that for success. We have the basketball facilities but it didn't seem to help COA or CBG that much until now. The facilities is a convenient excuse for those wanting to point fingers when it just may not be that simple a reason.
