The odd thing about what I recall from that "meltdown" was a lot of people complaining about the offense.   I seem to remember more of the defense not being able to stop Ball State at all.  I had felt the offense did enough to beat a team like that.  Which segues to what I think Holtz's downfall ultimately was.... that the defense got worse each season he coached.

The Ball State loss in Muncie was what convinced me he wasn't going to be the guy to take USF successfully beyond Leavitt. Best of luck to him elsewhere; it didn't work out here.

I'll never hope for anyone to fail however, I will always think SH never had much interest in coaching USF. He seems to be successful at all places except, USF.

Comes down to Wins and Losses that's it. No point having a football program in D-1 that doesn't have the desire to win and dominate in its conference. Coach can be a wonderful guy who everyone loves and names their kids after but, Winning is the point of the competition. Of course, there are other facets that go with it. Education, Character Building, etc. You hire a guy to coach/build your program and you pay them millions of dollars so...they have to Win. We have watched sadly as 3 teams in our conference took this Winning thing seriously and Presto! They are being rewarded.

CSH’s team got ripped off during that round of 32 in NCAA. They called that technical foul on USF for hanging on rim after the dunk and it hurt momentum

I am a believer that had he hired a competent D Coordinator instead of Chris Cosh he might’ve been given a couple more years. Most games in 2012 were lost in the last couple of minutes. It’s those little decisions in life…
