Which I'm still saying was more of a curse than a blessing ....... but let's hope their invite ultimately ends the same way as ours.

It was only a "curse" because our administration didn't parlay it into growing the football program

Absolutely, had a golden goose but sat on the egg. Not sure if we get a second chance (assuming it’s deserved), but what can we do? Got to try.

Correct.  I'm sure it helped build a foundation, but if anything us passing right by them and into the Big East lit a fire under them and propelled them to get serious about the program.   Kind of like their invite to the Big 12 appears to be doing for us ... we hope

Very true ^

Maybe a little kick in the ass is what we were missing.

I do think we had a spoiled fanbase. We literary went 4-7 the year before we joined the Big East 😂, wonder how many Kanigits were asking "Withdraw USF's Big East invitation?"

Well, it was a few bricks but really does anyone the state get that excited over D3, D2, FCS? Just like us when they loose they don’t get many fans. I am sure no one on their board reminisces about the D2 days like we do about ‘07.

Not saying there was a huge following back then but it was the planting of seeds, god forbid I say starting of a culture, picking up momentum as they moved up levels ....

It was mutual self destruction between administration and a fanbase that generally didn't get what drives college football ...... boosters.

The administrations job is to cultivate said boosters ... they did to an extent just not to grow the football program

The schools that got promoted had a lot longer than a 10 year head start ....

I meant for us we have to catch up 10+ years of our own mistakes.  The head start theoretically doesn't matter as long as you make the right moves at the right time.

Which is a mistake since football is everything in FL.

It's pretty much always about timing, plus what P5's are going to be looking for in the future if looking at G5's. The cream of the crop, on the field wise outside of Boise State, have already been elevated. I know there are a lot of opinions on what they'll be looking for but who knows. Maybe potential new homes have communicated to the wannabes but we won't really know until something official comes out ....... if there is more movement.
