Hopefully we will be in a better position next time the P5 expands (but don't hold your breath).

We let the opportunity pass us by because we didn't invest and believed in lies.  Now we have to catch up something like 10+ years rapidly.

The schools that got promoted had a lot longer than a 10 year head start ....

I could be mistaken, but I don't think much of what the knits did before we were around contributed to their selection over us

You are not mistaken. They went from D3, to D2, to FCS. Although it gave them a foundation, I really don’t think it did much to get them a B12 invite. Football on those lower levels were really “Mickey Mouse” back then.

Correct.  I'm sure it helped build a foundation, but if anything us passing right by them and into the Big East lit a fire under them and propelled them to get serious about the program.   Kind of like their invite to the Big 12 appears to be doing for us ... we hope

A foundation that we really didn't/don't have. It's why brewed coffee is better than instant coffee ...

But it was still football in a football centric state.

And as I mentioned above we still were chosen for the Big East ahead of them

Which I'm still saying was more of a curse than a blessing ....... but let's hope their invite ultimately ends the same way as ours.

Well, it was a few bricks but really does anyone the state get that excited over D3, D2, FCS? Just like us when they loose they don’t get many fans. I am sure no one on their board reminisces about the D2 days like we do about ‘07.

I agree with you on the curse over blessing point. Many don’t, but in my opinion it really set us up in a bad position relative to expectations and those fans who were fair weather.

Last I checked the scoreboard doesn't have a spot for current bank balance on it.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
