GAME DAY vs. BYU

USF hits the road for the second time this season having lost their last seven trips away from Tampa, last winning on the road on Oct. 26, 2019 at ECU, 45-20. This will be USF’s first game west of the Rocky Mountains since winning at San Jose State (42-22) in the first game of the 2017 season. This will be USF’s second trip to the state of Utah, having lost at the University of Utah in 2001.

VS. THE WEST: USF has faced four teams from the state of Utah, downing BYU in Tampa in 2019 (27-23) and facing the other three all in 2001 - falling at Utah (52-21) and downing Southern Utah (42-12) and Utah State (34-13) in Tampa – making the Bulls 3-1 vs. teams from the state. USF is 6-3 vs. teams from the Mountain or Pacific time zones and are 2-2 in road games at four of those - at San Diego State (L, 1999), at Utah (L, 2001), at Nevada (W, 2012) and at San Jose State (W, 2017). Oregon (L, 2007 Sun Bowl), UTEP (W, 2011) and BYU are also among the nine teams USF has faced from the western part of the United States. BYU will become the first that USF has played more than once in its 25 seasons.

FIRST START FOR NO. 9: Freshman quarterback Timmy McClain (#9) made his first career start vs. Florida A&M and became the 11th USF quarterback to win their first start and the 20th different starter in 25 seasons of Bulls football. His numbers - 12-of-23 for 163 and one touchdown passing and 51 yards rushing – are reminscent of another prominent No. 9. After making his first career start as a true freshman at SMU late in the 2014 seasno, Quinton Flowers began the 2015 campaign starting vs. Florida A&M with USF coming off 2-10 and 4-8 seasons. USF delivered a 51-3 knockout as Flowers passed for 141 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 63 yards and a touchdown in the game. He would go on to set 42 USF records during his career and lead the Bulls to 11-2 and 10-2 campaigns and Top 25 rankings in 2016 and 2017.
