I'm wondering what effect this will have on any potential expansion. If your a G5 school would it even help you anymore given they are giving the top 6 Conference champions an auto bid regardless of G5 or P5 status. The only incentive i could see is more money but the easier path now is to stay in your conference whereas if you go to a p5 conference it doesn't increase your odds of getting an automatic bid.

You are correct the only incentive now is for more money. And there are no G5 schools that can add to the bottom line of a P5 conference. So I think if there’s any expansion it will be between those in the P5 reshuffling the chairs some.

Didn’t one of the articles mention that the P5 and G5 names we’re going way?

I believe so.  My question is under the 12 game format with rankings determining a number of things, is the committee makeup exactly the same that does the rankings?

With P5 and G5 going away, does that help or hurt tv negotiations?  I'm guessing no effect.

GO BULLS!

Thought they already have. It’s P6 and G4 …..  I’ve seen the sideline markers and stickers.

I sure hope so. The perception of "G5" being officially a lower tier than "P5" (or P6 if you prefer) is just stupid. Of course there are more "powerful" programs in certain conferences (always have been, even without giving them some special name like Power Five), but those same conferences also have mostly less-than-powerful programs/teams. I get that the money structure is different for certain conferences (and do not discount that distinction), but the whole idea of giving hierarchical names to D1 conferences (and us landing at the so-called lower level) is terrible for USF sports. It's like getting stuck with a really bad nickname that may or may not be an accurate description. I mean, whose nickname is "Gat Rat" for goodness sake. 😉🤘

Let’s go 24 teams. Ten conference champs get in, then the next 14 best teams. Top 8 get a bye.

Talk about the regular season being meaningless...
