Apparently the pac-12 wants each p5 conference to get an auto-bid but was the only commissioner to bring it up.

Instead, it calls for the bracket to include the six highest-ranked conference champions, plus the six highest-ranked other teams as determined by the CFP's selection committee.

So I wonder how this may affect the P5 scheduling of G5's, if it does at all, not wanting to help G5's SOS. The AssKlowns finished in the top 12 twice but it's possible the Committee will take a stronger look at the SOS if this does go to 12. Those two years their SOS was pretty pathetic for a top 12 team and the Committee may want to take a more critical look before ranking teams that high with what will be at stake.

If we would actually go out and win the conference we will go to the playoffs. The American is not getting any weaker.

USF was about 15% better than its record last year, not closing out wins against temple, Memphis, and ucf hurt.

Our strong schedule the next few years will help a lot. A 1-2 loss team could still win the conference and get ranked in the top 4 potentially.

I think this will finalize conference expansion for sure. BYU's major sticking point other than the religion issue was equality with Utah. With a clear path to the playoffs they can join the American with an expectation that they will go to the playoffs with a conference championship. Notre dame will probably join the ACC or Big ten for similar reasons.

The big losers in this are the wake forests, West Virginias, and Vanderbilt type of schools that were basically academic boosters to their conferences. They can no longer use the p5 tag to take recruits from Memphis or ECU. Even Florida, Miami, and FSU will get hit in recruiting eventually once we start going to the playoffs ahead of those schools. Beating Miami or Florida at least once over the next few years would topple the apple cart.

Big USF GOAL-MUST WIN a conference title before UCF wins another one. This will help reset the Oregon-Oregon state perception our rivalry currently has and boost our recruiting

I agree with most of what you said, except for Notre Dame. The Irish is the only independent that has crashed the playoffs at top 4. They will now make the playoffs more often with access to 6 slots. All it has to do now is finish in top 10. The other indys really have no shot, so yes I see BYU moving to AAC by 2023 . They need to make playoffs before Utah to change that dynamic and the AAC is the only way there. I agree we are getting better and we must be able to beat UCF in next three years so that both are at least in equal footing heading into the CFP expansion years.

Yeah the record doesn't tell the whole story.

Temple: Up 5 in the 4th quarter, get a first down, then Joiner fumbles and they return for a touchdown. End up losing on a failed 2 point try.

UCF: In the 2nd quarter down 14 at midfield Joiner fumbles, they turn it into 7 and we go down 28-7. 4th quarter down 7 at midfield and again Joiner fumbles, they score another TD to go ahead 14 with 6 minutes left.

Those 3 Joiner fumbles don't happen and we likely win those 2 games. That would be 3-6 with a win over our rival. Then there's the Memphis game where the play calling on both sides of the ball up late is likely to blame. Fumbles and game management may have been something that would be cleaned up more with a normal offseason.

You are forgetting one thing with BYU…$$$. They still make more than the AAC and would want all home game $ which there is no way the AAC teams will agree with that. Further, they would still be considered lower tier by many compared to Utah and that is a brand issue. Last, BYU would be smarter to go to the MWC to save $ and they get the same benefits as the AAC.

Bigger than money for BYU is to appear equal to Utah. This is why I think BYU ends up in AAC

1. The Big12 will not expand. No extra money in tv being brought in by team to add to individual schools.

2. The MWC is a no go for BYU. They left that league because it put them at a lower status to Utah. That league would only have made playoffs once in last 7 years and brings in less tv money than AAC. Hard to explain going back.
3. BYU never announces their tv deals but with a much larger stadium their announced football revenues are close to UCF. That means more likely their tv money is similar. Would ESPN match it if they come to AAC? Since both are owned by ESPN this is more likely to happen.

4. Looking at past 7 years the PAC would had made playoffs 11 times, the AAC 5. And more importantly Utah once. Very important for BYU to match Utah in CFP appearances.

You look at all the above and BYU for football only to AAC is best deal for both. They will look at next two years and I think pull the trigger. They have after this year 3-4 games a year vs P schools they can keep those for OCC.

BYU is more about image than a few extra tv bucks . The AAC is the only way they can get better access  and spin as being in same boat as Utah.

We need to win a conference championship for the first time ever before I can comprehend any of this.  I am 100% sure that 15% better than our record indicates is one of the most ridiculous comments ever posted on TBP but god bless your optimism and I hope you are right.

1. Agreed, no G5 school will be getting a call up to P5 due to ease of use in getting to the playoffs and no G5 school is worth $27 Mil a year.

2. MWW with BYU, SDSU, and Boise would rival the AAC. Plus olympic sports cost would be minimized. What happened 7 years ago is irrelevant when it comes to BYU (even the AAC was willing to forgive Boise for leaving the BE without paying).

3. Their old tv deal was $4mil a year and it’s estimated that the current deal is $6.5 mil a year. That’s similar to current AAC level. Again, the problem here is olympic sports travel cost. If they try and put Olympic sports somewhere else they could have the same problem as Boise found.

4. you are neglecting biases from the committee here. When there is a discussion about #12 who will the committee choose a PAC team or an AAC team. I think we both know the answer to that one. Further, the voting will be much different by the polls as well. Sure they may be an odd year that two G5 schools get in but probably around once every twenty years. Thus, the MWC, Sun Belt and the AAC will most always be fighting for that one spot.

I still think BYU to the AAC is nothing but a pipe dream and will not happen. Again, more likely with the MWC.
