So I guess I missed this, but what happened to Brutcher, the freshman who was tearing it up pretty good for the BaseBulls early? He hasn’t played since mid-April. Injury, I assume?

And just to add to this, although I think Coach Mohl still has something to prove, the Bulls are hanging in there and the top 5 hitters in the lineup are 3 freshmen, a sophomore and a junior, and none of them is named Brutcher - another freshman who may be the best of the bunch. There is some hope there, I think.

Your definition of "hanging in there" is a lot different than mine. We're the 6th best team in the 5th best conference and below .500. The only positive is that this team is somehow better than expected.

Did you think we’d be .500 in the league heading into the final weekend? I didn’t. Nobody did. I’m just saying there appears to be more young talent than we expected - all getting good innings and learning how to win. They haven’t gotten over the hump, but right now if they had held their lead on Sunday vs. Wichita, they’d be 3rd in the league at 13-11. Wichita would be 14-13, Cincy and UCF both at 14-14.

The past four weekends they’ve split with Cincy, split with Houston, won 3-4 from Memphis and split with Wichita. Let’s give them a little credit for battling. The biggest test comes this week against league power ECU. Win two against them and I think it’s a statement that there may be a future with our youth.

They are young and have played better as year as gone on. If they had a good closer they would probably have 5 more wins. Let’s see if he can keep them and improving more next year.

on your question haven’t heard anything

The other side of the statement is that we went 9-7 the past few weeks against teams that are 15-12, 14-14, 7-17, and 6-22 in conference. We play average baseball against average and below average teams and lose to good teams. We're better than last year, but we're still a long ways away from being good, or even above average.

We're not that far.   Our young position players have played well overall and we have generated quite a bit of offense.  It looks like guys like Sullivan and Burns improved over the course of the year as well.  Add a stud pitcher, maybe 2 and we have the potential to be a pretty good team.

I mean, I can’t disagree with that. We were 92nd in runs allowed, if we replace 2/3 of our rotation with stud pitchers, we’ll be a ton better. Also, we were 192nd in runs scored, so we probably need 4-5 stud bats, too.

92nd and 192nd in the AAC?

Last I checked the scoreboard doesn't have a spot for current bank balance on it.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
