I don't know many pitchers who didn't debut on a leash.

Gerrit Cole debuted in 2013 at the age of 22 with a 6.1 inning 81 pitch effort.   He did not have a single outing under 5 innings.  Only a couple were less than 80 pitches.

How about Blake Snell's 2016 debut at the age of 23 ... 5 innings and 90 pitches?    

 

In his 2nd start that year he threw 92 in 3.1 innings .....

Wasn't that with the Rays? Was he set up differently in regards to the financial aspect than Shane ....?
