I always like to use our most successful MBB head coach as a barometer of the way things are handled now, as opposed to yesteryear.

Coach Pascal had an abysmal record after his first 3 seasons and there is no doubt in my mind that he wouldn't have survived to year 4 in today's climate.

Stan Heath did more than anyone that has ever coached here.

I think this is one of those semantics thingys when interpreting "more". No debate that Stan had the most successful season in MBB history but for overall accomplishments, I'd say Bobby. Four post season appearances in the Big 2 and the only conference trophy we have in the MBB case is doing more, IMO ....

Agreed, Bobby set the benchmark

Only 1 coach has ever won a tourney game at USF, and not only 1 but 2. I rest my case.

Coach K didn't get past the 2nd round of NCAA tourney until Year 6.   Losing record after Year 3

Dean Smith didn't make the NCAA tourney until Year 6

John Wooden was at UCLA 15-20 years before he played for a championship

They probably all would have been fired today .... definitely if brybul was the AD ......

For every one of these examples there are 100+ where a losing coach is just a bad coach. But the point is valid in that we are less patient now as a society, and especially a sporting society.

But as it relates to USF, four years is enough time to try and field a .500 team in conference (he is 23-46 in the AAC), and more importantly is that the program is in a nosedive. Maybe if there was an upward trend I could understand the argument for keeping him, but the most common reason mentioned for retaining him is the $435k buyout, not because anyone honestly believes USF can with the AAC with him.

That is as straightforward an explanation as I have ever found.
