I am happy for Stan. Still to this day think he was let go a year too early. I appreciate the time he put in at USF. Most sucessful MBB coach we have had. Only person to ever win a NCAA Tourney game at USF. Did he make the NIT once or twice?

Once. CSH's 3rd year, 2 years before the NCAAT. Home game against NC State. DoJo's last game. Lost by 1 and I can still picture him in the final seconds driving the lane but then kicking the ball out instead of taking the shot ....

It's when I learned that the NIT doesn't allow you to sell beer at tournament games.

Jones gave the ball to CH believing he was going to give it right back to Jones but CH passed it to Gus who passed up a wide open 18-20 footer for a contested 15 footer that was blocked

All I could find on that was this .....

USF star Dominique Jones had a look for a last shot, but passed it to Chris Howard, who then passed it to Augustus Gilchrist, who put up an airball.

"I really never expected [Jones] to pass the ball," Bulls coach Stan Heath said. "I'd rather go down with a missed shot then with something not going down the way [we drew it up]. That play wasn't it, you can't say. There were many other [plays] that you'd like to get back."

Jones said he passed the ball because a defender came to guard him.

"We wanted to keep it out of his hands," Wolfpack coach Sidney Lowe said. "We got him jammed up and made him pass it. It was a good play on our part."

I have the entire game on a dvd but here is an article that talks about Gus being blocked.
