Unless we're bringing in Deacon Jones, Reggie White, and Warren Sapp, I don't see rushing 3 lineman all game as being viable.

Why have all of our defensive ends been duds lately?

Imagine if in your business you had to rehire your team every year.

If we want to build a program you weight recruiting more heavily

If we want to grab wins in 2021 at the expense of consistency over the long term, you weight the portal more

I'd rather have a winning program than a winning team.

agreed

play the long game

If it were me, I would give priority to graduate transfers, hardship transfers, and guys that are leaving due to a coaching change. The guys that leave strictly due to a lack of playing time seem to never pan out. Leaving over PT, especially after just one season at a school, is not indicative of a winning personality. I want guys that are committed to getting better and earning the PT.

You would still need to hire a couple of experienced executivesthat know what they are doing until your new, inexperienced people learn and understand the business.  No way you run your business with a majority of kids right out of school.

Same applies here.  The long term nucleus needs to be incoming freshmen recruits. However, a few experienced, physically mature, transfers can plug some holes.

Trey Laing was the most disappointing. Buddy averaged like 15 sacks a year in highschool and came here and couldn't crack the lineup.

Thought of the Day:

We should bring in Selvie to coach the D-line.

He was not only great in college but was a 7th round pick and was in danger of washing out when he bulked up and had a very nice career in the NFL, had the pleasure to see him in Dallas and even one year next to McClain.  I don’t know if he can coach but I am open, we need d linemen badly.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
